This looks pretty interesting.

15 or 7.5 watts, two 12ax7s and two el84s, cute and portable. List price £425.00, or about $626. Not bad. I'm very tempted.

Looks interesting. In search of a bedroom amp, that might be a consideration. Good for the bedroom, maybe a tad too much, but versatile for taking out.

Another one is the AC4TVH Combo and head/cab models. Definetly one for the bedroom and competition for the Epi Valve Jr.

You just gotta love marketing speak -

If Looks Could Kill

Night Train is one sexy beast. Solid enough to inspire confidence, Night Train weighs less than seventeen pounds - and the “armored lunchbox” dimensions provide extreme portability. Finished with a cool chrome mirror-finish, the signature VOX diamond design reveals that inspiring vacuum tube glow. And of course, the Night Train NT15H includes its own padded carry case to protect your investment.
Direct from the Vox page :AOK:

I don't think I would want to walk around with a 17 lb amp, my guitar, and there has to be an unused, but usable by me, speaker cab present at my destination. :thwap:

Not that it doesn't look cool. :whatever:

And it probably sounds cool too :dude:

Gil

PS Ignore me - I've been reading too many marketing docs lately :rotflmao:

Looks good. :dude: It looks like they're going for a Orange Tiny Terror vibe.

The similarity is remarkable ;)

PS: there's a rumour of a channel-switching Orange TT but so far the only pics have a strong whiff of Photoshop about them.

That seems to be the consensus around the forum circuit (not circuit sity).

I am getting a severe case of GAAS in a major way. I received a check in the mail for $445 on a reimbursement for my sons student loan. Instead of Kent State on it, all I saw was VOX or Peavey or...

Looks kinda industrial. Can it put out a non-Vox-like amount of gain?

With the amount of information provided by Vox, does anyone have thoughts on how this amp might perform? Does it appear to have B's or are there areas that would cause concern?

It looks pretty well made, but it does look like it is made in China. I'd like to see internal shots.

I'm guessing that it is like an 18W: two gain stage preamp, phase inverter driving the EL84s. The parts values probably give it a "Voxy" tonality rather than Marshall, though.

Made in Vietnam, like much of the Vox gear now. My DA5 was made there too.

Look at the picture of the rear of amp, you can see the lettering
Built By Vox Manufacturing Vietnam under the direction of Vox R&D England My DA5 says the same thing.

I would agree with your description - a Vox amp, not a Marshall. It has both an 8-ohm and 16-ohm speaker jack (see picture). No sound clips yet.

Two posts mention Marshall as if the Vox sound isn't up to standards. Now, it may be difficult for someone to put into words, but what is it that the "Marshall" sound has that the Vox does not?

Sorry if I gave that impression. The Vox sound isn't worse or better than the Marshall sound, just different.

Vox amps are very chimey. Lots of high end sparkle in a good way. They get nasty when pushed, but still retain clarity and chime. Think of Brian May's OD sound. Marshall amps have more grunt, more mids and less sparkle than Vox. IMHO, Vox amps do a better clean sound than Marshall.

I know sound is more an individual taste, I just couldn't get the reference to a manufacturer as it related to the point trying to be made.

I prefer clean tone and even pushed I still want to hear some clarity. I don't care for hearing an amp get pushed to the point where there is no distinction between different chords and notes being played (I hope I stated it in a way people can understand what I am trying to say).

If I think about tone and sound, I want Eric Clapton, not Metallica.

I agree with the above.

I like a Vox amp sound, I also like a Marshall sound. I don't think that Vox would be making a Marshall sounding amp - they would make one that fits in with their family of amps.

I always thought that Marshalls couldn't really do clean very well - but listen to Jimi75: VIDEO of my Marshall JTM45 (http://www.thefret.net/showthread.php?t=10069) - very nice cleans (and some really nice playing) :AOK:

That's a good point, Gil. There isn't just one Marshall sound. The JTM-45 sounds different than the Plexis, which sound different than the metal panels, which sound different than the JCM800 series.

The JTM-45 was a copy of Fender's Tweed Bassman amp which has both an awesome clean tone and an awesome OD tone. The JTM-45 sounds different due to the different transformers and output tubes.
