Why would anyone want this? And pay $112 for it?

I mean, does it do anything that I couldn't accomplish with a pedal?

No, and it's not original. The Alembic Strat-o-Blaster did the same thing in the 70s.

Not to mention there are only about $5 worth of parts in it.

That must have the platinum jack plate. I think that price is way out of line when for 35 bucks you can just use an EQ pedal.

It sounds like a Tube Screamer with the gain all the way down to me. And, as a bonus the TS has volume and tone controls :AOK:

Hate to seem picky, but it's not -exactly- the same thing. The original was not passive as it was powered by a 9V battery.

See RI info here (http://alembic.stores.yahoo.net/blaster.html)

Having said that, I see even LESS value in a passive device. By it's very nature it can't really boost anything, all it can do is shape the signal your amp see's by reducing the volume of certain frequencies. Sounds like a horrible idea to me.

It must be my week for battery related errors :)

And you're right, a "passive booster" is an oxymoron.
