Mike Brown from Peavey said the Powerslide (a lap steel that has a strap that allows you to walk around with it like a Dobro) is shipping. Here's the particulars:

There is a reason for the radical shape. We call the body contact portion of the Powerslide the "bellyhook", which conforms to the human "belly" area without slipping or pulling to the left when in the standing position. This IS a guitar that you would play standing up. There is a three-point strap that is included with the guitar for the standing position as well.

Yes, the body shape is radical and the idea was to appeal to the younger player. However, there are other reasons for the various contours of the body shape. Check the Powerslide out this weekend at the Texas Steel Guitar Jamboree in the Carter Booth and see for yourself.

Here are the pertinant specs that we frequently receive on our instruments;
Scale-24 3/4"
Nut Width-2 1/8"
Bridge width-2 1/2"
String Spacing- 12/32"

We string these instruments with "12's"(12-56)

Look anything like this? The Melobar guitar was a lap steel designed to be played standing using an angled "fingerboard". Another for the "nothing new under the sun" file methinks. Nice to see Peavey doing something different otoh.
