A bit of background.

I wouldn't normally do a political song, but lately at night
when I least expect it the ghost of Woody Guthrie has
been visiting me and feeding me material.
Now Woody's a nice enough fellow but he's kinda creepy
so I asked him to leave me alone. He said that I he would
if I recorded this song.

I said 'but Woody, what the hell do I know about folk music'
to which he replied 'don't B.S. me man, i've heard your music
you don't know much anyways and this is no time to go getting
uppity about it'.

Well he had me there..

So in the case of you being a fan, don't hate me for this song..
hate Woody.. and understand that no matter what, I am just a
regular guy making some simple music. Rush Limbaugh will
still be much richer and have more power at the end of the day
than all of us no matter what a simple man like me could toss at
him. So don't go getting all funny with me telling me I might
hurt his feelings, he can dish it out so I reckon he can take a bit
too.

That being said, I present a simple song in the design of American
folk music.

Rush Limbaugh, (an american folk song)

Lyrics

Rush Limbaugh Rush Limbaugh tell us what to do
so many enthralled with the venom you spew
Mix hatred with bigots and see what you brew
and the people you reach most they haven't a clue

CHORUS: there's a special place for you
hells too cold for what you do
and all the mis-truths you have told
wont get you back the soul you've sold

Rush Limbaugh Rush Limbaugh always on the right
the mothers who listen send their kids to fight
in two foreign wars which you seem to delight
And the doves will be bled by the hawks you incite.

Rush Limbaugh Rush Limbaugh your safe in your booth
And the lies that you cast some digest as the truth
one gets what they give but you get what you take
when things are their worst the more money you make

Rush Limbaugh Rush Limbaugh addicted to pills
and preaches to others about others ills
the more he's exposed the more he sedates
the calmer things are the more he gets irate

Nice work Maxwell.

It sounds right musically and vocally for the style you are trying to evoke. I particularly like the way you double-tracked some of the vocals. It adds a nice depth to it.

I'm not sure if I'm "allowed" to tell you I like the sentiment of the song, but I do like the sentiment of the song. I think getting some of these feelings out via music is one of the healthiest things we can do for our emotional well-being. :D

With this folk song you are obviously not trying to impress me with song arrangement, or singing prowess, or guitar playing, or other instrumentation. The lyrics is the message, and you delivered loud and clear; and I agree.

Nice one! I'm glad to see people are trying to direct people's attentions away from the individuals actually doing serious harm to our country, and towards those who aren't. Nice!

I wouldn't sweat it..

I assure you Limbaugh will reach many more millions with his polorizing hysterics than I shall reach with my humble song.. :)

Songs are often times political. Woody Guthrie is an example of a folk singer who was very political. On this board, we can discuss Woody's music but not his politics. This folk song by Maxwell is political. However, for forum purposes, we and Maxwell can discuss his song as a song. I ask that we honor the forum rule of not discussing the political message of the lyrics. Thanks all! :)

Mostly the soundclick charts are silly kids stuff... one certainly can't take them seriously.

But when a song like this is flashing at #1 in Folk Rock and #3 in Rock over 200,000 other songs and without any paid promo and I am getting the kind of feedback in my personal email like I have with this one (both pro and con) well, I think the extra inch of exposure is dandy.

Thanks to all for putting and keeping it there for a short time.

Peace!

You might enjoy the video..

Unlike the song the video is steeped in political parody, .. just so there is no suprises.

Maxwell I really like it....reminds me a bit of James Taylor and quite a bit of Bob Dylan.....lyrically I completely agree. Now how about something about Nancy Grace.....
