Do you have one? I do! It is a really great little amp, with plenty of power and volume. I have more info on my website. They show up on eBay once in a while, and they are definitely worth 4-500 bucks. They were replaced by the Kingsnake, which have just been discontinued. Turns out, Reverend are not going to be making any more amps - they are getting out of the amp business. That is a shame, as Reverend made great quality amps for the price.

Robert,

I was on the www.reverendguitars.com website the other day, and it looks like they are going out of the amp biz and concentrating solely on crafting guitars.

I think they have only a few models of amps left. Anyone who wants to get one, better.....while the gettin's still possible. To view the amps that are still available, go to http://reverendguitars.com/reverend/amps_etc.html

One of the guys at the www.birdsandmoons.com (PRS Forum) get-together last summer in the San Fransisco Bay area had a Hellhound, it held it's own with many very much more expensive boutique amps.

Cool, that is interesting to hear it held its own! I haven't tried many "booteek" amps, but I am hoping to get one some day. The Hellhound is a very simple amp, but I do like it. Running it with a nice cab, it sounds very nice for that Blackface type of sound. I'd recommend getting a Kingsnake while they last! They are probably similar to the Hellhound, only better. I am never parting with my Hellhound!

Well as I have said before.. you inspire and influence alot of my decisions when it comes to guitars and gear.. and probably alot more people around here if they tell the truth.. for months I have been trying to win a bid on E-Bay for a hellhound.. without getting out of hand that is..

Finally I got one!

Your music and sound has always pushed me to try harder.. although I still suck.. (you can't help on the natural talent part)

All those hellhound clips..which I usually enjoy... welp..

just had to get one..

Now the wait for it to arrive !

Robert, let me pick you brain for a second...
I was just going to Private message you..
but maybe others may find your answers useful if they look at hellhounds.

I am really looking forward to this amp..maybe more than the bassman..
I have been off reading about them, reviews , settings etc..
it seems to have the settings of a modeling amp included..
Have you ever walked through those settings in the manual?
What's your opinion on how well they match up?

Another thing...
I noticed a few tech reports on the first 700 hundred or so..
some cap to remove due to TO BRIGHT of a sound..
But most say it's not that much of a difference and just turn your mids up some..
did you ever have to do this to yours? seems simple enough (Zapppp)

Another thing..:) Which tubes have you settled on?

Another thing..:) Did you ever try a 12AT7 in your first position as suggested for clean headroom just to hear the difference?

Appreciate your input.

I am amazed how many GOOD reviews this amp gets on Harmony-Central and yet , it's now discontinued.

I never tried an 12at7 yet - it's on my list of to-dos before I die. :)

I think the EH stock tubes are the best I've tried.

Mine didn't need the cap job, since it's a little newer than yous, and Reverend took care of that on the newer amps.

The settings, well they don't match up that well in my opinion... the amp will sound a very typical way, no matter how you turn the knobs. Those are just recommendations anyway.

Thanks Robert, from what I have read..your opinion is not alone.. seems to have a sound of it's own..

Another thing I noticed and I believe happened to yours ...
The Reverb Tanks seem to go out on these...
The one I am getting had a accutronic put in place of the original when it went out...
least..I think it will have the accutronic in it..after re-reading the description..I kinda wonder..lol

in ad:
I replaced it with an accutronics tank same size from one of my Fender amps. I will ship the original Belton tank with the amp..

I am taking that as BOTH the one installed and the original will be included...
Hindsite: should have asked to clarify but didn't...

The stock reverb wasn't very good anyway. I use a Lexicon reverb in the loop, sounds great!

Your coffee cup says "Fender"?

Looks like you are approaching "Spud-levels", gear-collection-wise! :D

Man, you have more pedals than I do I think! How many?

Man, you have more pedals than I do I think! How many?

Some place around 22-25...some are not in pic...Hey..it's my HOBBY!

:rotflmao:

Oh btw, the Reverb is kinda weak as you said on these hellhounds.. I got both the original (belton broken in the box) and new one (accutronic) installed... but ya know...it just adds enough...

hey robert..you said you run the internal speaker and an external together? what did you do Y cable them or one in 8 ohm and one in 16 ohm?

I got the 8 ohm cab...so either or for me... unless I get a cable..

:AOK:

My clips.. external cab with helltones and then alltone internal.. justa_idea..I likes it..

Robert
September 28th, 2007, 02:14 PM
I have a 16 ohm cab so I can run both at the same time.

Dang, I don't even have 20 pedals yet. I gotta go get some more!

You know, the one with the most pedals wins. :whatever:

It sounds good, Justa! You like it?

As a honeymoon sweetheart...I surely do so far... sounds great to me..with internal speaker or the cab.. cab makes it much darker..to me in a good way...both have their points.. all good points...

I keep buying gear for THE BAND :Dude:

I sat all day playing with this hellhound... man it's a nice sounding amp..

having more sounds then then the Bassman70.. At one point I just had to hook them both together..
figuring I would then have a reason to get rid of one or the other..
I am keeping them both at this point..:)

The Hellhound handles the highs better, actually, I never heard every string hit so clearly.. most excellent..

but it does not have the power or warmth for lack of a better word the Bassman70 has.. imho.. But add in the Reverb and UK switch, it has many more sounds available.

I could get the hellhound on US to sound almost the same as the Bassman70.. but it had to be maxed on Volume and 11:00 on Gain (any more and it will start to break .. which with this amp is not a bad thing..:) ) while the Bassman had Volume 7 and Master at 4.. at which point..I can't take it any louder in this room.. with things vibrating already...lol

On UK, it really does have a different sound.. think 'they" say its just a mid boost.. but its definately different in my ears..

But together...wooohoo.. heh.. glad I got an a/b/y...

its soooo much fun to feel and hear it all together...
I added the Epiphone Cab to the Hellhound to get some deeper bass..
Internal and External worked fine together...
I should be deaf by the end of the week...lol :rotflmao:
Well worth the bucks... even at my level..;)

Yeah, it's a fun amp, ain't it! :D

There's lot of versatility with that schizo switch. Keep experimenting with that switch! Especially with humbucker and single coil guitars.

It sounds really good turned up, eh? It starts to really come alive when the volume goes up.

I see no reason to ever get rid of the amp, even if I get something better. This one is still very useful and has its own tone. I'd better keep this baby for a long time.

Not that anyone might care.. I just had to mention it..:whatever:

Well, I just had to break this thing open and check
for those updates..And see if the tubes looked good.
All Pics: http://www.box.net/shared/hrzhtu3aql

first remove the grill..velcro
http://www.box.net/shared/r462014in0

then remove the back panels 4 screws
http://www.box.net/shared/szz3nst5fe

Hmmm only 3.. and the little wood block
is cracked on the one missing.
http://www.box.net/shared/thxvf7xijt

Panel Removed..ahh there is the 4th screw
sitting on the speaker!
http://www.box.net/shared/2xzxajdegr

I noticed at this point that the power
tubes are different size and they are
loose.. one was corroded at the base
while the other, when removed the middle
fell off.. I had a pair of =C= laying
around and was fortunate for that!
http://www.box.net/shared/8tknbumroa
http://www.box.net/shared/hdmtmv6yi0

Well, on with removal.. remove 4 screws from
the top.. pull back and out she comes!
http://www.box.net/shared/pze1iot5eh

The bright cap is still there..
but not for long..
http://www.box.net/shared/prc335girb

The Red and Yellow wires are as should
be so I had nothing to do here except
removing the cap and adding new tubes.
http://www.box.net/shared/8b4bt7z6k2

The new compared to old..I even tried a 12AT7 in there
but it had a High Whine sound when cranked..Microphonic?
so removed it and place the x back in.
http://www.box.net/shared/fjrb6tfcja

Everything back together..was a snap!
http://www.box.net/shared/q8qxq7t8lm

Removing the cap did take away a bit of the bright..
But it also added some to the bass.. a plus..
Might think of adding a switch there to have
it both ways later.

I believe the old power tubes still worked fine..
But replacement was a must! Powerwise..
it increased a bit..but just a bit..

Still loving yours?

I ain't selling mine!

I am rediscovering it all the time... man it's a fun little amp.

It actually works better on low volume than my Heatseeker, which tends to be too loud for "bedroom playing" (whatever that is... :) )

I have always been interested in Reverend guitars, but I hear they stopped making them in the US. Has anyone played any of the newer ones? How do they stack up against the originals?
