I went to my favorite local store this morning.

http://www.woodsys.com/

I was glad to see the store crowded and people bringing things up to the counter to purchase. One guy was purchasing a nice Taylor high end acoustic. Another guy was looking like he was about to decide between two American Deluxe Strat's, a few looking at amps. There were also a number of people there for lessons and others there for repairs.

For a Mom and Pop type shop, I thought they were doing pretty good for a Saturday morning around 10:30.

While I was paying for my purchase, I asked the owner how business was doing. He said they really haven't been doing too bad and only have experienced a slight drop off in some high end stuff.

Me, today was only two female jacks and picks for me (about $7.50 total), but I still have visions of a couple of the guitars in my head.

Why so cheap?
Get in there and buy something substantial... support your local economy!

The temptation was there. There was a Casino that looked so darn good and a few others. I actually went and looked at their used equipment in hopes that something would follow me home, but there was nothing there that would satisfy me. However, there was a lot of new things that would.

Oh, did I mention the picks were new?

I looked at the site. Lots of neat stuff, esp. the Gretschs!

Oh yea, they were calling out to me too. The names in the electric section go like this

Fender dominates about 60 to 70% of the biggest wall in the store. I would guess 70 to 100 Fenders on the wall and guitar stands. On that wall Gibson takes up the rest with maybe 25 to 30 guitars. Back wall has some Parkers (maybe 5 or 6) and others that I have not paid attention to (too pointy, might lose an eye). A wall leading to the lower end acoustics has mostly Gretsch and Epi. (probably another 25 or 30 made up of those two makes). Scattered about are pedals, amps, and Bass guitars. The amps are again dominated by Fender, but also has some Vox. Used equipment is usually made up of the brands they carry.

On the other side of the store are the keyboards, drums, and other instruments and lessons are given towards the back. Upstairs are the high end acoustics - mostly $3K and up. Both floors have repair shops, but the upstairs is their main repair area.

The place is made up of two store fronts that I would guess to be about 100 years old. Located in Kent, the area reminds me a lot of the pics Spud posted of his hometown that caught fire. Some of the streets are still red brick, the trains run through the center of town, with most at a lower elevation with a series of bridges to cross over at different sections of town. It still has the old train station.

There are a number of family owned businesses that include deli's, pubs, and fine restaurants.

And of course there is the campus just a few blocks away.

This helps in giving Kent another image besides 1970.
