Last night we took Ella Rose to her first live show (she is now 10 months old).

We are lucky enough to have a great venue here in Tampa called Skipper's Smokehouse which has always strived to create an atmosphere where people can bring their kids with them to see live shows because as any of you that are parents know, we don't lose interest in live music just because we have kids.

The venue itself is a great setting for music. It is an outdoor stage. The audience area is completely beneath a canopy of trees and then there is a small area in the back that is covered. You get all the great parts of being outside but still plenty of shade (which is great in hot sunny Florida). We have seen many many great shows there (particularly Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings last spring) but this was the first time we'd been back since we've had Ella. She absolutely loved it!

The show itself was also something special. Our favorite local original band, Beanstalk, played together for the first time in 8 years. Back in their heyday we used to go see them every Wednesday (they had a semi-permanent gig at a different local bar) and often other shows they'd do around the area as well. They were a great bunch of guys and their musicianship was awesome. Unfortunately, as they were beginning to gain some notoriety outside of this area they underwent some internal strife and wound up breaking up. Now they've decided to give things another go and last night was their first show back together.

Here is a quick video link of Ella enjoying the music...

So who else takes their kids to shows? I am sure many of you will encourage your children to have the same love of music that you do.

By the way, the sound from my camera hardly does the band justice. If you want to hear Beanstalk the way they should sound, here is their MySpace page...
