At 14, best friends Robb Reiner and Lips made a pact to rock together forever. Their band, Anvil, hailed as the "demi-gods of Canadian metal, " influenced a musical generation that includes Metallica, Slayer, and Anthrax, despite never hitting the big time. Following a calamitous European tour, Lips and Robb, now in their fifties, set off to record their 13th album in one last attempt to fulfill their boyhood dreams.

I don't think I've ever heard of them. They are a real band.

Spud, you never heard of Anvil? Really? They were pretty big in Europe back when I was still wet behind my years. It was about the same era as Accept, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, etc.

At first I thought "Can this be for real?"
But the production values are too good.
Not my genre, but it looks interesting.

I had always thought they were part of the NWOBHM.

I had always thought they were part of the NWOBHM.
Me too, it's one of the first bands I heard of in this genre. Except they are Canadian. Does that make them half-British? :D

When I first saw the ads I thought I had heard of Anvil before, but then I just wondering if the ads were crafted so well it was creating a false memory.

I first saw the trailer when I was at the movies. I've never really been into metal, so not knowing who they are didn't surprise me. But the story sounds interesting, kinda of a last gasp effort to achieve the fame they never attained, while trying to shake off the inevitable comparisons to Spinal Tap by those who've never heard of them. The band members even made reference to the Spinal Tap comparison in the trailer.

You have to feel for those guys, though. They have given it their all for a lot of years, been highly respected by their peers, and yet they just never caught fire with the public...outside of their dedicated core group of fans. Most bands would have given up long ago.

I definitely wanna see this, and I'm not even a metal fan.

Go Anvil!

It is fantastic! I had never heard of Anvil before but the story is very heartwarming -- in a bad-a** metal way, of course. :dude

Seriously, see this movie. It's a story of a bunch of Canadian boys that had their 15 minutes of fame but didn't let the end of the lime light bring them down. This is more of a film about the human spirit, of not giving up, no matter what, than anything else. Do check it out.

This is an AWESOME documentary! I'm not crazy about their music but I admire their passion and resilience. It is a very heartwarming story and I strongly recommend it to everyone here.

It is a story any fan of music can appreciate! I own the DVD and watch it every so often.
