Virut is no fun...

My old PC got infected by something awful and nasty called "virut". Oh man. I've spending all day trying to get rid of it.

Scrubbing with soap just doesn't work either. I'll try the washing machine next.

Oh, this Virut thing is horrendous. It's some file-infector that spreads like crazy and is very, very, very hard to remove. The worst I've ever seen. The only reason I need my PC is to test websites I develop so that they work on Internet Explorer. This infected machine start mass emailing crap around so our IP address got blacklisted... TWICE!

Something weird is going around facebook too. I ignored the messages there and did not click on them. I wonder if it is the same thing. I normally run macs, but sometimes I have to run windows on my mac machines. I suppose the portion of the machine running windows could be affected. Yuck!

I remember having to boot my PC entirely the last time. Those viruses....stupid thing really. I remember the guy in the Apple Store two weeks ago...it took him 40 seconds to tell me why I should buy an Apple in the near future and the virus topic was one of the points.

You mac lovers gee......if you are reasonably careful and have a good antivirus program you really do not have to worry about viral or malware attacks. I have cleaned many of them off of customer's computers...but rarely have to worry about them on any of our 6 computers at home.

Perfect description of me and my computer (with Norton AV) - unfortunately that wasn't good enough in this case. Mac and Linux are much safer from these things, that's a fact. However, I am forced to use a PC for certain things like website testing, due to all the other people out there using PCs.

Except that Norton AV sucks seven ways to Sunday. And it's a resource hog to boot. There was a time when I said I wouldn't run a computer without Norton on it. Those days are long since gone. Linux and Mac aren't affected by virii and such as much mainly because of market share. Macs inherently aren't a ton more secure than the most recent versions of Windows. Of course, if you don't keep a Linux or Mac box patched, you're asking for trouble.
