I have the opportunity of bringing this beauty home. She's a 50th Anniversary LoneStar Strat with Texas Specials. All original. The guy's a friend and we played in many bands together. He doesn't want to sell but I guess the recession is bugging everybody. Its not up for sale publicly but he'll sell it to only me. After the conversion it'll be about USD 793.00, no taxes. :D Any thoughts on this model?

These are nice guitars. In the original US Lonestars, the bridge 'bucker was automatically coil split in position 2 (I count from the bridge) for a more traditional quack tone.

Paid down on her ...played her yesterday, man-o-man, nice neck, 9.5 radius, coil tap on the 2nd position as Mark said. Played her through a Marshall half stack and she sang, wailed and was very arrogant about it. I'm putting 10s on her and readjusting to my liking. Comes with original fender hardshell case. He told me thay it was bought in 1996 and just sat there. Does anyone know what these went for in '96 or street price now?

Those are nice guitars. I have two Roadhouse Strats (3 single coils TS's, but similar) in candy apple red w/ white pearloid p. guard, I paid USD $575 apiece for them.
Asking prices for these vary. I've seen Lonestars and Roadhouses used, and prices usually run $800-$1000. There are still bargains now and then, but not as often. The ones that actually sell, tho, usually end up going for around $600-$800. Not a bad price at all considering what new US Strats cost now.
The MIM versions are usually pretty nice also.
I thought all the USA built ones had the double roller style string retainers and block style bridge saddles, but I could be wrong as I haven't researched them.
Here's a 50th on ebay....asking about $1200.

And her's a '97 sunburst w/ maple board, went for just over 8 bills w/ shipping.

The US Lonestar, Roadhouse and Big Apple strats all appeared at the same time in about 1994. They were basically US standards with upgraded pickups. The Big Apple had two SD humbuckers and a pretty clever 5-way switching pattern. The Roadhouse had three Texas Special single coils. The Lonestar had the TSs in neck and middle with a SD Pearly Gates plus in the bridge. At the time this was the only way to buy this pickup, SD designed it for Fender specially for this guitar.

All models were just nice hot rod takes on the standard. I almost bought a Roadhouse. They should have the modern two post bridge with dull cast saddles (see my avatar) and the rear tone control should be a TBX with the notch in the middle.

Fender parts and wiring information is available here (http://www.fender.com/support/wiring_diagrams_parts_lists.php).

Thanks for all the replies guys! and for all the useful information. I've always wanted a fender and everytime I travel, I would sit in GC or Sam Ash in Houston or Miami for hours playng them and never found one that said "take me home". I've looked at the Pacifica 812, Carvin Bolt and Squires but was really stoked for an original Strat. When Robert demoed the American deluxe I thought that would have been the one to get but I've always balked at buying such a tactile dependent instrument over the internet, sight unseen.

This one is a winner, even if there were mods I would buy her, I know the first and only owner and even though he is a tinkerer, there are no mods on this guitar. she just feels really really sweet. TheFret rocks !!! I'll let you all know when she's home. Thanks again.

Saw her again yesterday,, the owner is re-intonating and setting her up for me. With old strings, (the ones she was bought with) she still chimes.

Strange thing happened. I've always had some difficulty with the John Frusciante/Hendrix thumb over style from the verses of RHCP's Under the Bridge. I dont know if it was the tone or the spirit of the lady but my fingers found their way into that song and played it perfectly. I was so into it and shocked that I was playing it I did not realise that a bass and drum had joined in and before I knew it, we were jamming the song.

must...have....her...
