Hello everyone. My name is Greg and I'm a guitaraholic...errrmm...I'm fifty five years old and from Southeast Michigan. I've been trying to learn to play since about 1966 and have taken money, under false pretenses, playing in bands on and off (always off even when on) since about 1969. I was involved in co-owning three retail operations in the 70s and 80s and more-recently, I've dabbled in the vintage game as both a collector and dealer but in the last ten years or so I've thinned my herd and played more or less for fun though occasionally I do play out; personal parties, benefits and such playing acoustic music, classic rock and blues stuff.

I currently own about thirty guitars and basses. Nothing extraordinary and about a dozen of them Strats (all Fenders-modded AmStands, CSs plus a Japanese '54 RI and a Mexican ProTone that has the nicest neck of all of them...go figure)) and the rest, the usual suspect Gibsons (LPC, SG, 335, SJ-200 etc.), Epiphones (Rivieras, Casinos) and my acoustics and others. I also have about a dozen amps including a few BF Fenders (DRs, SR, Tremolux, Champs) Marshalls etc.. I'm for the most part a tube snob but also own a few solid state jobbies and fully admit that a solid state Squier 15 that I bought at a flea market for $30 for my workshop gets played probably more than anything else. I don't expect anyone to believe me but there have been times when I recorded with it because I was able to get such a huge sound out of the little turd on tape (or whatever that is they call it now) and have taken to using a BF Champ and a Shure SM-57 these days when playing out. I come from a time when you needed a van just for your guitar rig and have used a Marshall Super Lead half stack and a Fender Showman + cabs in the past. My ex bought me a '66 BFDR (still a fav) in about 1981 so I'd have a "practice" amp and since then my stage rig has become progressively smaller.

I collect "noise toys", especially old Boss and EH and have quite a few of those as well as two '81 TS-808s that I paid $100 for the pair...on close out when they were going to the TS-9s. One of the Tube Screamers is still in use and the other is in its box (with the original instructions and Maxon battery) waiting for the day when I want to really retire lol. I also have rack stuff from the 80s and 90s but as far as effects I mainly use one of those Boss plastic pedal boards with a TU-2 tuner, CS-2 compressor, BD-2 Blues Driver overdrive, OS-2 overdrive/distortion, CE-2 chorus and a '65 DR amp emulator with the signal chain in that order. At times I'll swap out the Blues Driver for one of the TS-808s.

If I'm using my Marshall combo (JCM-601 and 1-12" cab) I use an old SKB pedal board with the built-in rack units and on that I have old Marshall Guv'nor, Blues Breaker and Drive Master pedals as well as an ART-DST-4 pre-amp,, Chandler Tube Driver and Lexicon MPX-100 in the rack spaces plus an ART MIDI switcher. I some times have swapped out the DST-4 for an old Yamaha SPX-90. I have one of the original PODs and a couple of early Korg multi-effects but I'm not much for the modeling stuff.

I didn't intend to write a book but once I got started I couldn't seem to stop. I have some knowledge and experience that I'm more than willing to share and I'm always willing to learn from others. This seems like a pretty cool place thus far and I'm glad Just Strum posted the link elsewhere for me to follow. So, hello everyone.

Yeah, welcome on board Greg. After reading that intro I really want to come jam at your place. Who needs a POD when you've got most of the original amps it models.
