Thinking of changing my start pickguard from this...

to either this

or this

What do you think? I'm leaning towards the tortoise. The finish on this strat isn't pure black it's called Montego Black which has some gold sparkle in the paint. You can only see it if you look closely or shine stage lights on it. I'm not feelong the gold anymore either the pickguard or the sparkle in the paint. Unfortunately the colour options on the US deluxe aren't great.

I like the tortoise especially if it would have a prominent white laminate line around the edge.

I personally wouldn't change at all, but if I had to change I would go fo the tortoise.

The white binding gives the tort guard some pop!... much better :AOK:

I've never been a big fan of white pearloid so I'd have to go with the tortoise as well.

I like the gold as well. I bet it looks good with the gold in the black finish.

I like the tort, or keep it the same. I love tort guards, but that gold one already has a cool different look. I am not really into the white pearloid one.

You could also do the "none more black" thing and go with a black or b/w/b guard.

I've always been partial to pearloid pickguards...I have white on both of my strats, but I'm going to throw a wrench into this and suggest BLACK PEARL!

+1 for the tortoise with the white piping. That's what I did with my black strat, and I love it.

Can't really see the green but it's there.

Thanks guys, I ordered a tortoise guard just to give it a try. If I don't like it I can always change back to gold after a while. Interesting that there's some love for the gold guard here.

OK - time has passed. I would have voted for the tortise as well. How has it turned out? What is on there now?

Well I got a tortoise one and went to put it on a while back but the holes for the volume and tone switches weren't big enough, so I need to redrill those holes a little bigger. Since then my wife had a baby so this job has gone on the back burner for a while. Sticking with gold for the time being.

I think the tortoise with white trim is certainly the classiest and nicest.
I don't like the gold really, it's kinda dated looking.

If it were mine, I might just go plain white or black. I like simple impact colors, no frills or many different colors. That's why all my guitars are simply white with white pickguards.

Well you still have the guitar to play and the pickguard to think about. Guitars are great but babies are better - congratulations!

When you get around to installing it, don't use a drill, unless you just use a bit like a reamer turning it with your fingers. The best tool for that job is actually a tapered reamer. It's only a tiny amount of material that needs removal, and the stuff is pretty soft

Darn those wives, they're always going and doing unexpected things like that - tho granted more often its buying shoes or something...

Looks like I'm the standout for voting for the white perloid....

Ya' beat me to it, otaypanky. That's exactly what I was going to advise. It's easier than it might seem to get and oval, offset hole!

Mine is a goldish copper snakeskin style that looks great on the Blizzard pearl. Aged white pearl on the CV 50s.

I switched out my white pickguard on my "blackie" Stratocaster to a white perloid which I got from Musician's Friend for only $9.98. Everywhere else, it was at least three times as expensive. It makes my Strat look much more elegant.
