Passed peacefully in his sleep on July 4th.

G&L, the company George & Leo started after 'consulting' for MusicMan, once the non-compete clause expired on the deal that Leo had sold Fender to CBS, posted this dedication on its website's home page today:

Farewell to Leo Fender's long time friend and ally in founding an upstart company bearing Leo's surname in 1948 and then, together, developing the Broadcaster, Telecaster and Stratocaster, just to name what were surely their the most significant contributions to our world. Here's a photo of George Fullerton (in the foreground) testing a new Stratocaster in the Fender factory, in 1954. It wasn't until 1957 that George & Leo felt they'd 'perfected' it;

Boy, rest in peace. Amazing what they gave they gave the world, and he (and Leo) will be missed.

If you visit this Fender website, and go to 'Story' and read the 3 parts of it -- how George & Leo came together and started what they gave us --and 'Video', you may get a clear appreciation of a man most overlook when giving credit where credit was due. There were other players in the story, for sure - Freddie Tavares, Don Randall - but the Strat was Fullerton's pride & joy.
