I was wondering if poeple here wear earplugs at concerts. I have friends who do not wear them at open air concerts...

I wear earplugs at every concert and I found out that with good earplugs you get a very defined sound spectrum. When "unplugging" my ears at bigger concerts for a few seconds the sound is getting muddy and noisy. With my plugs I hear way more.

How about you? Yay or nay?

Eh? You say something sonny? :)

No, I never wore any but I remember putting my hands over my ears at some of the concerts.

I don't think ear plugs was invented then. :whatever:

No. I probably should but we keep a very low stage volume. We don't play without micing everything so that lets us keep our amp volumes at a reasonable level.

Pretty much the only concerts I go to are jazz concerts, and no need for ear plugs then. But I think I will always bring ear plugs with me anyway to any concert, and pop 'em in if necessary.

Yep, absolutely. I've always tried to take care of my hearing; I take a pair of plugs with me everywhere I go. I'd probably be stone deaf by this point if I hadn't gotten into the habit.

it depends on the band. for the louder bands i enjoy, yes, i use earplugs. aside from the obvious benefit of protecting my hearing, i've found the earplugs cut out a lot of the annoying crowd chatter while still letting through the sound of the music.

I appologize for not reading the topic correctly before. I don't wear earplugs at concerts but I probably should. Most concerts I attend are outdoors or in a festival setting. It's always been the inside shows that I've regretted not wearing the plugs. Pink Floyd in '94 was intense but I saw the North Mississippi Allstars in Northampton MA about five years ago and I thought I had permanent damage. Non-master volume Marshall stacks in a room the size of a small bar was just crushing.

Never did ...until the last few loud shows I attended.
Angus Young pushed me over the edge inside an arena, and wrecked my hearing for days! It truly was painful, and I almost left the show.
I don't worry too much outside, although I'm still gonna bring plugs just in case I'm sitting right in the line of fire.

If I would have gone to more concerts I would have worn them. The only concert that I remember fearing for my hearing was Crue/Whitesnake in '87 (I think) at the Joe Louis Arena. I remember thinking that Whitesnake was actually way too quiet. Crue was mind-numbingly loud. All I could hear was my eardrums distorting. I couldn't hear right for several days. The concerts I've gone to more recently have mainly been casino gigs with more manageable volume levels.

I don't go to that many loud concerts anymore, but I will be wearing earplugs if I do. I want to keep my hearing, at least as much as I currently have.

I never wore earplugs to concerts when I was younger, but I should have.

If the pH of the water is 1, yes.

I ALWAYS take them to every show I go to. Some are not so loud that they are needed, but I'm extremely glad that I have them for the shows that get too loud. I still want to be able to hear my own guitar when I'm 65 years old so I'm going to protect what I have left.
