Long story short, I've got a new Jimmie Vaughan Strat thanks to my Dad! It's a beauty. This guitar feels and sounds great stock. No need to mod a thing! I love the neck, how it's very 'V' like near the headstock and gradually gets more 'C' like near the body. Big frets! Great sounding alnico V Tex-Mex pups. The trem was floating which I dig now, and it works great. Has the large mass vintage block on the trem as well. Fit and finish on the guitar is wonderful. These MIM's are just awesome these days, especially the upper end MIM's. Always wanted an Olympic white Strat with a maple board! Strats are the shit, they are so musical and versatile.

I recorded a clip last night late, so I used the blackfaced channel on my AmpTramp and used OD pedals for the grind. Starts out clean, and various pup selection, then I kick on a chorus at 1:58, the turn that off and kick on a ZenDrive at 2:26, then switch that off to an OCD at 3:05 and include a Bad Monkey for boost at 3:50.

hahaha I've wanted one for awhile now. Its the guitar that I recommend to everyone else. I should eventually follow through on my own recommendations! The stock Tex Mex pups sound pretty good on your recording. Nice and bright. I like bright. I like nice. Stratty sounding. Is the pickguard single ply? I think I'd pop another tortoise shell on one if I had it. Erm...when I have it. GAS is wonderful thing. :) Thanks for sharing and great present for you!

I was also thinking about the JV or Robert Cray strat, could you maybe post a few more pics of the neck like the back and the headstock, people say the pickguard lifts a little at the neck, does it bother you at all?

My pickguard seems to be fine and is flat all the way around. I don't mind the singleply. As for the neck, I'll have to get some shots sometime. I can tell you it goes from a V shape at the headstock to a nice C shape the closer you get to the body. It's the same neck as the Buddy Guy Strat, or at least cut the same.

Congrats on the new axe! The JV strat is supposed to be one helluva buy, and the necks are great on those. I've never heard one person say anything bad about that guitar, and I would say it is VERY close to the American strats in terms of quality and sound.

How does the V-neck differ from the modern-C? I've never had the chance to try a V-neck equipped Strat.

You guys mean something like this.......

Or this maybe........

As for teh neck.....the V part is more at the headstock area and then it tapers to a nice C as you go down the neck. Best of both worlds imho!

Nate - I think both of those combinations of 'guards are classic and killer diller. Are those Corel or Adobe vector images originally? Thats pretty cool.

Guys, come on! Just when I thought I was over my guitar obsession you go and put up these great pictures. Now I have to go back to Strats Annonymous. It's so embarrasing. "Hi my name is Steve and I'm a Strataholic." What am I going to say to my family?:D

Not only is it a nice guitar, but some tasty playing was going on there. The thing is, in the U.K it costs as much as american strats!

Hey Nate, loved your playing on your sample. After looking at the pics of the tort pg, I might have to check one out for my 60th Std. Mine is 3 ply white now. Won't make me play like that overnight though. I love all the sounds you were getting out of yours.
