I have a guitar with EMG-HZ humbucker pickups. I'm not impressed with the sound. I have seymour duncan pickups on an Ibanez guitar that I really like. I love the sound that Slash gets in the old G&R albumns.

So, my question is, what pickups would you recommend me getting that would get me closest to Seymour Duncan Alnico Pro II pickups without spending the serious money for them? Would any of the GFS pickups on guitar fetish be close? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Sounds like you're looking for a vintage PAF sound. I'd consider these:

Vood I was looking at these yesterday....would they be comparable to the Gibson 490R and 498T Alnico 2 magnet humbucker pickups? That is what I want to get close to with my Les Paul copy.

I sometimes roll with GFS pups; but, I really feel that it is definitely worth the money to spend the extra money and get quality pups like SD's. I love SD's. I like a SD '59 in the neck and a JB in the bridge. Very hot pickups.

I have also noticed that some of my guitars, Peavey, etc., have some awesome stock humbuckers, custom wound at their shops. I won't change them. I even have an Epiphone SG '66 copy of a Gibson Standard that has some real nice stock pups, or else the wood and everything comes together just right because it sounded much better than five SG's I compared it to, on a Gibson.

My experience with GFS is that they are better than stock but not in the same category as SD's or other big time pickups from notable companies. Even my Fender Noisless J bass pickups I put in my J bass are awesome. The GFS P bass pups are better than stock in my affinity P bass but I really wish I saved a little and bought SD Quarter Pounders. That P bass is fun though, just I constantly wonder how much more fun it would be if I did it right.

Hope this helps,
