Will Krashpad be banned at U-G?

I post on a lot of forums. Some, like this one, with some frequency, others much less so.

Ultimate-Guitar is a weird one. I like kids, have a couple of my own. But the average age of the posters at U-G is like 12 or 13. They're really odd about banninations and such there. The only place I've ever even been warned is the gear page, mainly because I argued with someone about their snooty tastes in guitars (the gear page is sorta the converse of U-G, I'd swear the average age there is 60, and the average value of the posters' guitars is $3K-$4k apiece).

But I digress. At U-G, an Original Poster's requests as to the scope of a thread apparently raise to the level of bannination rules equal to Terms of Service and forum rules. For instance, there's a "post pics of yourself" thread where you can only post 2 pics per week, and cannot post unless you post a pic. Of course, such a rule reduces the thread to a bunch of pics with no real interaction between anyone posting, because you're limited to 2 posts/2 pics per week. So you can't comment on other people's posts without blowing one of your two weekly posts, and they can only respond once, because then they're done for the week too. :thwap:

So I recently got a "warning" for posting responses to pics without posting a pic myself. I'm on probation for 30 days, and if I get another warning, I'm "banned!" :whatever:

Since they wanted a pic of me, I gave them one. So far as I can tell it breaks no rules:

im on my third ban, it gets lifted on the 30th this month lol.

its not like i actually do anything, its more like poking fun at people. we do that all the time here, but robert and the mod teach dont go all apesh*t on us all the time.

probably because TheFret understands the concept of humour.

if you dont want to be banned on UG, dont...

talk (this is usually conveyed as 'spamming' by the mod team)

poke fun at rubbish gear (this is what im banned for...ishared an experience involving an MG and was instantly banned for 'trolling'. the 11 year olds are very proud of their spider IIIs also)

recommend gear you havent actually tried yourself (the mod team treat this as 'false information')

post links to ebay or any other site (this is now called 'advertising' whereas it used to be known as sharing information on gear)

Considering that at first glance I only thought you had one finger in the air, I would have said that your chances were excellent :) If they do ban you for that, well, I don't know what to say.

I will say that I have been a mod on other forums before. I have no interest in taking that gig back. I find it too hard to judge when someone reaches the point of banhammerbananarama. Of course, part of the problem is that the forums I modded had very vague. ill-spelled-out rules.

UG seems to make stuff up on whim and caprice. It's just flat out weird. Stuff that wouldn't raise an eyebrow anywhere else, even a calm place like this, is banhammertime there.

It's really kind of funny.

There've been several times over on H-C where I should've been banned but wasn't.

Considering that at first glance I only thought you had one finger in the air, I would have said that your chances were excellent :) If they do ban you for that, well, I don't know what to say.


The website seems to be probably roughly half-Limey, half North American, meaning that a person from the USA or Canada is at least slightly in the minority there. The Limeys might take "offence" at the pic-- this is a culture that still snickers at words like "knickers," for heaven's sake. But I know that the hand sign I made in the picture was visible in BBC TV comedies dating back 25 years or more (specifically, "Are You being Served?," oftentimes accompanied by a "raspberry"), so I reckon I've a pretty good argument I haven't offended public morals.

But we'll see, haha!

my proper account got a 45 day extension :rotflmao:

Krashpad, you should get yerself banned just to read the crap people write in the forum of the banned.

I've sometimes wondered if banning is from some regional culture the administrator is accustomed too.

I posted a bunch of pictures of a Corvette show at the beach (read that: At the beach ) on Digital Corvettes dot com and got banned because my (adult) girls and their friends were wearing Bikinis.

That's no BFD around here or water ski forums, but I guess some things don't play well in Kansas.

The boating forums it's no personal attacks, no insults towards the women GF's or wives, and no porn.
All ya need is a warm heart and a thick skin.

I post the worst homemade videos and deserve all the cheap shots and insults that are hurled at me.

Forget UG and spend more time here is my 2 cents on the subject.
