Remember the Little River Band?

Did you know they were the first band from Australia to go Gold?

Did you know they were the first band from Australia to go Platinum?

Did you know they released 23 albums and have a new one on the way?

Did you know they have 13 top40 singles and 9 top 10's?

Did you know they had Top 10's 6 years in a row?

Did you know they have sold millions of records around the world?

Pretty impressive huh?

I got to meet and hang out with a few members recently. They have a new lead player from Nashville named Rich Herring. Not only is he a tasty player but he also has good taste in amplification as well. Notice the Hot Rod Deluxe in the photo. I have one too, but his has had a small modification done. He sets them up behind the drum riser facing backwards. Obviously this keeps the stage quiet so they all can hear their vocals...and they do sing very well. The pedal boards are his as well. He only uses the Line 6 for spatial effects.

The other picture is with Wayne Nelson the lead singer/bass player who came on board in 1979 and sings on "Night Owls." He has been the lead singer and covers all their hits very well and plays a mean bass.

Spud, how many famous musicians have you met??? You should write a book about it when you retire... :)

Retire?!! What the...?

I meet as many as possible. Think about it. What do you do? Play guitar, sing, write songs correct? What do they do? Same thing right? That makes them peers. They are just people and fun people to meet at that. I'm still waiting for the time I'm hanging with a famous musician and we get to do something diabolical together like throw a TV out a window. Now that would be something. Instead I've had to do that all on my own.:D

Right on, Spud. The LRB has tons of great music. My favorite album of theirs is Diamantina Cocktail (1976), which features my favorite LRB song - "Happy Anniversary" (killer guitar solo on that one!). Also featured on that album is the mega-hit "Help Is On The Way" - another great tune. Of course, we can't forget the multi-platinum LP Time Exposure (1981), which features the hits "Night Owls", as well as "Man On Your Mind".

Yes, LRB has tons of great music before, in-between, and after these two albums, but I mention them because they contain some of their more identifiable hits. They are a fantastically talented band. As well - it'd be hard to me to say that I've seen a band that can out-do them vocally. Guys, I've seen a TON of acts, and let me tell ya' - these dudes can freakin' SING! Gives me goosebumps just thinking about it.

The LRB is a staple on the summer festival and casino circuit (I last saw them at the casino out in Mahnmomen, MN, two years ago), so if you see that they're near your home town, I'd highly suggest that you check them out. You'll be happy that you did - I absolutely guarantee it! ;)

And lastly, glad to hear that there's a new LRB studio album coming out. Any idea when, Spud?

I love the guitar work from their original guitar player (don't remember his name). But his leads were very tasteful and his tone was great. I remember seeing them on an HBO special quite a long time ago. He played a Strat most of the time but he also had an SG. His Strat tone was fantastic. He would get this fat sustaining tone that worked really well for the melodic stuff that he did.

Wow I thought I was a lone LRB fan just loved they're first album. When I was selling Hi-Fi I used to use the opening track ( It's Along Way There) to demo speakers the acoustic guitar in the middle after the Electric solo always won people over and the vocal harmonies are superb!

Unfortunately this video fades just as it gets to the bit I was talking about:mad:
Click on the top more in the info box for quite a full rundown on the band. I think that Rick Formosa was the lead guitar player.

like Nike...just do it. Walk up to them, go between the barriers, hang out by the bus or get a chefs coat. It works like an all access pass. Everyone has got to eat. Makes you look like the "dealer" except you'd be dealing PB&J sandwiches or steaks or something.

Oh, I also work where I can meet them. Either as an engineer or a chef. Still, they all do a sound check so get there early.
