in an awesome venue: a barn. Fantastic acoustics, decor, really something. The Nighthawks rippped it up, people on their feet dancing for the whole time.
If you don't know these guys and have a chance to see them, you should. They've been touring for about 35 years (Jimmie Thackery is an alumnus). I would call them The World's Greatest Bar Band. Blues, rock, roots. And for the fretters here, Paul Bell is a treat. He's their guitarist: extremely tasty telecaster stuff. I had the opportunity to chat with him and talk a little gear beforehand. He's got nothing fancy -- series of Boss pedals. He's a terrific player. If they come to your town, check them out.
