My Micheal Kelly Patriot Custom import in flammed trans red with Rockfield direct mount pickups and coil splitting nickel plated humbuckers is an awesome guitar.

The feel is great, it's ergonomic, ebony neck, abalone on the first fret in addition to the standard inlays, great tone both splits, great pick response and dynamics. Never knew Rockfield pickups were that great.

Truly a wonderful guitar and a pleasure to own.

Duff, I take it that means you just got it?

If so, Happy NGD! Michael Kelly's are great guitars, and, for the price, a steal! A TRUE bargain! :applause

I have to say, I really like my Michael Kelly Patriot Q. Wish mine had the Rockfield PUPs in it though. I got mine for $200 on CL. The CL Ad claimed it was a Patriot Supreme (which would have had Rockfields), but I bought it anyways. Here are some pics to hold everyone over until the TS posts his. :)

I tried a white Patriot Vintage the other day, very sweet! I liked it better than my own Patriot Shadow even.

Yes, MKs have a great sound, feel great in your hands, and play VERY well.

Here is my 2003 Pat Q. Hmmmm... good cracker!

Damn, I like your Q better than mine. In fact, auriemma, your posts are how I found TheFret...when I was googling for Patriot Q info.

Also, epi205...If that is a Patriot Q, I don't think the PUPs are Rockfields. Pat Q's have MK PAF Plus PUPs, as far as I can tell.

Comm64,

Thanks. I like yours. I've always been partial to natural woods. If the wife would let me, I'd trade you straight up. but I'm under a "No new gear" agreement until 2011. If I break it, no chance of a new mid-range Martin any time soon.

You are right. They are MK PAFs and not Rockfields, but they play nice all the same.

Here is the link to the Patriot Q spec page at MK's site. Its not on any link from their site since its discontinued, but they keep the page up for posterity... so they tell me.

Technically, it's not "new gear". Heh. I reckon mine's got a few more dings than yours too.

Neither is mine... 2003, its has wear on the metal finishes, but the body and neck are clean.

Ohhh Okay, I must have read/understood the info wrong... I thought
they were sportin' the Rockfield SWC's. I really like the pickups in this
Pat-Q! Just cool tones!! Man, I guess I goofed there. I'm gonna go
stare at my feet for a while now...:thwap

I only know this because when I bought my Q, the seller had listed it as a Patriot Supreme, so I was excited about Rockfield PUPs. When I went to look at it, it turned out to be a Q, but I bought it anyways. I've been quite happy with the PAF-Plus PUPs though...I don't think they need any apologies.

You bet! I think they're fantastic pickups...
Now I've since dropped the Mafia's in my
Epi LP transamber and just the other day,
Dropped a set of SWC zebras in my Epi LP
Ultra. I've become the Rockfield fan here
on a fluke deal... Haaaaaahhhhhaaaaa
Ultimately... I'm a DiMarzio kinda fool tho.:dude

I'm getting GAS bad for Michael Kelly guitars!

It's my 30th Birthday this year. Maybe I should treat myself in October!

Pat Q's do not have Rockfield pups and do have MK PAF Plus pups. These are damn good too if you asked me.

FWIW: My MK Pat Q has no serial number and was made before Hanser bought them, so I called MK customer service to ask a few questions. They gave me the email of Todd Rockfield who has been with MK since its beginnings and said to ask him. You know... the man who the Rockfields are named after.

@nthony... why wait? :D

I think I'm going to put .11s on my MK tonight... I have been using .10s, but I'm liking the .11s on my other guitars. I wonder if I will have to reset the intonation?

I'd definitely check it. You might need to tweak the truss rod too.

Todd Rockfield is a great guy. When I first began looking at the Michael Kelly guitars I had lots of questions - some good ones and some quirky ones (e.g., why specific pickup color choices on different MK models?). Todd was extremely patient and very helpful. Primarily because of him, I did get an MK with the SWC Rockfield pickups.
