I have an offer of a Hughes & Kettner Attax 100 head for my upgraded
Fender SCXD. The H & K has a little age on it but is in good condition and
my SCXD has been upgraded with a Ragin'Cajun and JJ's in it. First, what is
your initial feelings....secondly, if I made the trade and then decided to trade
or sell the H&K reasonably....would I have more or less trouble selling it than
the SCXD.

Yeah, I know...I'm blabbering.....but really have no clue here. :thwap

By all accounts the SCXD is a good sounding, versatile, lower powered amp for home use. I tried one a while back at Guitar Center and thought it sounded great. Is there something lacking in the SCXD? And you've just upgraded the speaker. All things to keep in mind.

The H&K is a 100W hybrid amp. From what I've read on the net (never tried or heard one in person) it has a tube in the preamp and 100W solid state power amp. Do you really need 100W of power? Although it does look pretty cool; from the H&K site:

http://www.hughes-and-kettner.com/products.php?mode=prod&id=127

It's not as versatile as the SCXD, but still offers a lot of tonal options.

Just playing devil's advocate here, but what is it exactly you'd be trying to accomplish with the swap? Just something to think about.

Thanks for the input. I passed on the H&K for many of the reasons you listed.

I bet you would have regretted it. Me, I'm terrible when it comes to deals. When I get the gas there's no end.

Usually a good rule is - when in doubt, don't.

Sometimes it's hard to know if you made a bad deal or not.

Like my TM-10 - I'm so happy I have it, I hunted for one high and low...BUT the price I paid for it...it was a complicated swap/sell thing, but the bottom line is: I swapped a Valve Jr. head well modded, WITH NOS tubes inside and WITH an external power brake box AND a mint Boss GT-6 multifx system AND a 4x10" cabinet AND a 100W slave amp for a tiny 10W all-solid state bedroom amp...:what

But I guess I'm still happy about it. Moneywise...idiotic choices.

We've all been there. I've had my share of bad deals, just because I had to have a certain piece of gear. :thwap
