NEW YORK (AP) -- Aerosmith's lead guitarist Joe Perry says the legendary rock band isn't breaking up — although they need a new singer.

Perry said on the micro-blogging site Twitter late Monday Aerosmith is "not splitting up" but "looking for a new singer to work with" amid speculation about the band's future and the role of front man Steven Tyler.

Tyler has been quoted as saying he is considering a solo career.



Perry said Monday on WKXL, a radio station in Concord, New Hampshire, that Tyler hasn't communicated his intentions with anyone in the band and that he found out about Tyler's solo wishes after going online.

Tyler could not immediately be reached for comment.

The 61-year-old Tyler was injured when he fell off a stage during an Aug. 5 performance in South Dakota, and the band canceled the remainder of its summer tour.

"After the tour got canceled, he just kept drifting off and doing other things. We would hear things from different people. He wasn't talking directly to anybody in the band," Perry told WKXL, referring to Tyler. "So basically, he just made the announcement that he was taking some time off."

Arnel Pineda shared that he began performing when he was a young boy in the Philippines. His mother and father, both tailors, recognized his talent.remarkably he has the Joe Perry sound down pat.links can be found about the singer and the whole story of how it all came together.had all the news elsewhere but cannot seem to locate it now except I do know he is from Manila.they recently toured in Louisiana w/ the new singer.heard it was sold out the few nights they were there. :dude

I know I'm probably in the minority here, but I think Aerosmith should have retired a long time ago. In my modest and humble opinion, the last decent album they put out was Live Bootleg. That probably dates me a bit, but it may also explain why I'm not a fan of their more recent endeavors. Joe Perry is still a great guitarist, and Steven still has the pipes, but...sadly they aren't writing anything worth listening to anymore.

Again, I realize that most of you will probably disagree. I'm okay with that. I'm of the mind that "Older is gooder", in most cases involving those rock bands that were big in the 70's.

Enough said. Talk amongst yourselves. ;-)

I think Aerosmith should have retired a long time ago. I realize that most of you will probably disagree. I'm okay with that. I could have gone to their most(?) recent show (a make up), which may end up being their last, but other than Attic and Rocks, I've never been huge on them. They really don't put out like they once did, and the time I saw them in the mid 70s they were really good but not great. The $ must be too good to stop.

Get Your Wings is the best of the bunch.
Essential classic rock listening.
Great tracks on "Toys" and "Rocks" too, but Wings was one of those coming-of-age rock records that brings back great memories for me.
I bought nothing from Aerosmith since then.

If, for whatever reason, the band decides to work for a couple of years without Tyler, I highly recommend Eric Dover as a temporary fill-in. Gotta agree with FrankenFretter. This big question shouldn't be "is Steven Tyler quitting Aerosmith"....it should be "would anyone notice or care?"

As the other's said, Rocks and Toys, as well as Live Bootleg are the only Aerosmith albums worth listening to, IMO. A slight exception would be a few tracks off their other live release, "A Little South of Sanity".

Here's a pretty cool instrumental track off Joe Perry's recent album, "Have Guitar, Will Travel". He has a great wah pedal sound.
