Ah, another QOTSA spin-off. Cool. Have you listened to Eagles of Death Metal yet? Another Josh Homme band that's great.

OK, maybe that was a bit premature, since I've only listened to it one time so far, but there is much to like on the new album. Josh Homme delivers the same haunting vocals and powerful guitar riffs that he had in Queens of the Stone Age, but the overall sound and song writing are now up to what I always expected from them/him. Some songs will take time to grow on me, which is usually a good sign.

John Paul Jones' bass lines are very familiar. I'm sure I've heard that sound somewhere before... Hmmmm...

I'm not sure just how much song writing collaboration there was between them and Dave Grohl since most of the songs have that Josh Homme sound. Regardless, I like what I'm hearing here. A little weird at times, but I welcome new sounds that don't copy other artists.

More after a few listens...

After spending some time listening to the album (do we still say that, or does it have to be "CD" now? What if it's a download? I can't keep up with all these shifts in lingo...), I really like it a lot. That said, I have to say that it does sound almost too much like QOTSA. That's the thing I like about The Eagles of Death Metal; they don't really sound like QOTSA, but they're great on their own merits. I think the album could have been released as a QOTSA album, and not that many people would've noticed. The differences are too subtle.

That's my two cents, for what it's worth.

They did a killer job on Elephants live. :dude
