Keith Vonderhulls at BYOC posted an announcement on their website about a week ago re: the forthcoming redesigned phaser kit. Looks like it will still do the classic MXR Phase 90 "script" thing, but a whole bunch more as well:

There's no official release date or pricing announced yet for the kit, but from an e-mail exchange I had with Keith, it sounds to me like it will be available before Christmas. Stay tuned....

So from what I'm reading the Phase Royal is to their Phaser what their Overdrive 2 is to their original Overdrive?

Maybe you can call the DVM version,
"Set To Stun Phaser"? :D

Yeah, that's a pretty good analogy, Rev.

Funny you should mention that, 'cuz here's one I made for Fretter Gil Janus almost exactly a year ago:

What do you use for your graphics on your pedals? Also for paint?

I've got my BYOC Blues Kit coming! Can't wait.

Waterslide decals printed on a color inkjet and clearcoated with acrylic spray to lock the ink down. See HERE (http://www.thefret.net/showthread.php?t=6235).

As far as the paint goes, I used mostly Krylon spray paints, along with Rust-oleum for some colors.

One constraint with inkjet waterslides is that the base color can't be dark, because then you have to use light colored graphics. They end up being quite transparent and show up poorly against the dark background, which shows right through.

Just got an e-mail yesterday, announcing that the release date for the new BYOC "Phase Royal" kit will be Dec. 12. No news on pricing yet, but I'm guessing $90 - $100 range, based upon all the added features.

The new BYOC "Phase Royal" kit was released for sale last Thursday, Dec. 10, two days earlier than expected. Kit price is $90, right where I thought it would be.

For you non-DIY'ers who might be interested, the DVM build price is $125 for a fully finished pedal for orders placed before Jan. 1, when my 2010 price increases will kick in. Subtract $25 if you want a "naked" metal box (fully assembled & tested) that you'd finish yourself.

Thanks DVM. Now that it appears BYOC ship internationally, I'm keen to try a few out. I've been eying off the phase royal (amongst others) for a while now. (gotta get me one of those analog delays and grudge match it against my PT80 and see which I like best). Might be a job for after Xmas though as I currently have a Ge fuzz, a tremolo and an OCD clone in various stages of construction. I have no idea what the OCD will -look- like yet, but I'm quite excited to reveal the designs for the fuzz and tremolo pedals! Honestly, decorating pedals is like watching paint dry....Oh wait...;)

One of the BYOC forum mods posted an audio demo of the new Phase Royal. Really shows off the depth and lushness available with the two added phase stages. You can switch between 4 or 6 stages. The pedal also has a cool vibrato mode:

I think the problem with that pedal is that it won't be adjustable enough :)

I bought one of these new BYOC Phase Royal kits (http://www.buildyourownclone.com/phaseroyal.html) a couple of months ago but just got around to doing the painting and decaling last week, while finishing up a couple of customer builds. Got it reassembled & running the night before last, and grabbed a couple of quick photos--see below.

Very nice sounding phaser, with many more control options than you get on most--particularly the 1-knob (modulation speed) MXR Phase 90, which is the core circuit this kit is based upon. The phase stage toggle is a really nice addition--you can go with the classic Phase 90 4-stage setup, or select 6 stages for more swirl and wobble. Crank up the Depth and Resonance controls and you can get some pretty crazy sounds! BYOC sells the kit for $90. While not a beginner level kit (fairly high parts count, and you have to dial in the phasing with a trimpot adjustment), it's a pretty straightforward build for anyone who's done a pedal or two. And if you want one but don't want to tackle the build yourself....well, hopefully you know who to contact! Build pricing info available HERE (http://duhvoodooman.com/miscimages/musical/price_list.gif).

You know what they call the "BYOC Phase Royal" in France?
"The Quarter Pounder" :rollover :nope :poke (I should be banned) :o

Bravo Tig.

Nice work as always DVM.

I realise the layout of the BYOC PCB is designed for board mounted pots in the smaller enclosure, but I'd be very, very tempted to build that into a 1590BB. I know the small size is going to be more practical I guess, but I like a little more room for the controls rather than a little more room on the pedal board.

That is too cool! Any self-respecting trekkie would want one of those! One question though... is it campy and enjoyable, like the TV series was? LOL
