For Friday - Songs that make you want a tele!

A little different approach today. Featuring a particular guitar, in this case, a tele. I don't have one, but occasionally lust for one, especially a butterscotch with black PG one. My strat is my tried and true but I think it would be fun to have a tele one day.

Here are two songs that make me want a tele. Please add yours.

First up, Bruce Springsteen in his prime, dueling on his tele with Lil' Steven on his strat at beginning around 3:10 or so. The tele just so fits the raw, underdog, uncouth, unrefined, junk yard dog Jersey show being put on by this great band in its prime, and so fits the raw voice Bruce put into his vocals back then. (He had to change his singing style and needed medical assistance partly due to this style). The contrast with Lil' Steven's smooth and cool strat is really fun.

This guy made me more familiar with the sound of a tele than about anyone, though I did not know it at the time as I did not yet play guitar. This performance is fun to watch with the focus on Andy Summers with his tele with a 'bucker in the neck.

Wow, I still love the pre-Born In The USA Bruce Springsteen era. Songs like "Jungleland" still hit home today.

Cool posts! Keep 'em coming. Yeah Tig, Springsteen's stuff from that era up through The River really resonated with this kid from Tacoma, an ugly step child to Seattle.

Strummer is a good call for sure too.

Not an actual song performance, but I found this little lesson clip by(arguably) the original Tele chicken-picker (the guy who, back in the day before unwound 3rd's were common, first stuck an unwound B string in the 3rd slot to make it happen) on how to play a fairly recognizable (to old farts) solo...one that motivated many a guitar player to say 'I gotta get me one of them.' :

Evenkeel: I saw Roy live back in the 70s locally. It was a 4000 seat concert hall and there might have been 20 people. He called us all down to the orchestara area and played for us. It was pretty amazing. He had a drink and a smoke going while he played. The crazy thing was you could head down to the El Mocambo in Toronto 40 miles away and for a beer you could hear him play.
