Better late than never!
Their "From Mars to Sirius" release is their best, IMO.

I discovered late a few this year, myself.

Porcupine Tree entered my ears and never left. Amazing prog rock. The latest release, "The Incident", is a fine collection of musical landscapes.

I didn't like Wolfmother much before, but their "Cosmic Egg" release is pretty cool... A modern take on Led Zeppelin, with a twist.

I finally discovered Joe Bonamassa this year.

Them Crooked Vultures kick arse. They are what I always hoped for from Queens of the Stoneage.

Oz Noy was a pleasent surprise.

Ooops, I read Blaze's post as musicians I discovered in '09, not necessarily ones that released recordings in '09.

Yep, same here.

And here.

....

I also found Darker My Love, and increased my appreciation for The Dodos, The Black Angels, Ryan Adams, and The Fratellis.

Wow, that guy is entertaining!

Is there some kind of law in Sweden that requires infants to learn guitar and later become masters?

Also, closely related to them is Within Temptation, who I've been enjoying for a couple of years now. Delain's keyboardist is the brother of Within Temptation's rythym guitarist.

I recently discovered a band from the Netherlands called Delain.

They certainly have some Evanescence/Amy Lee influence going on there.
You may already know about the Italian group, Lacuna Coil (http://www.lacunacoil.it/), but if not, check them out. They are similar, but a little harder/goth with 7-string guitars.

LC is one of my favorites. Saw them in concert a couple of years ago with Within Temptation as well (which was when I first heard of WT). Got several autographs AND got my picture with Christina Scabbia :D

North Mississippi Allstars have a cool sound. Thanks!

Yet another new exposure. It amazes me how many good bands with original songs are out there that even us guitarists haven't yet heard of. Youtube makes for an excellent distribution ground.

There are many musicians that don't gig other than on youtube, like Noitpure. This woman is very talented and has a guitar and amp collection to die for!

I read your post too quickly and thought you were calling Robin Ford a woman. I figured out what you were saying about Noitpure. She does have a rather extensive collection of fantastic gear.
