I like the Xavier Guitars (http://store.guitarfetish.com/xvsehodr18se.html) too, I wonder how their build quality compares. They are a bit more expensive than the low-end SX.

I know it's kind of petty, but I really don't like the tint that Rondo uses on their low-end maple necks.

The color is nice, but you'd have more saddle adjustment w/ a standard strat type bridge. The stop/tune-o-matic combo looks good, though, albeit a little out of place on a strat-style body.

From what I've read online anyhow, the Xavieres are closer to the Agile line than to SX. Also, Xavieres come with GFS pickups stock, which many consider a plus.

That's funny......... I like the tint, but when I finally got to play one, I didn't like the feel.........it's like the neck's sticky or something. At least the one I played was, and it wasn't dirt or grease. I guess it could always be sanded off and tung oiled.

That's the thing too. I saw an SX bass used in the local store (they were actually charging more than you could buy one new) with that tint and gloss. I thought the tint looked worse in real life than in pics and I already didn't like the pics. I played it for a bit expecting the typical glossy tackiness but it was even tackier than usual.

I own an SX Tele, Xaviere 335, and Agile LP. While the different styles, fretboards, pickups, etc. make it hard for me to directly compare, I think that's a fair statement. The SX is definitely something I would consider using as my only instrument, but some of the things on it (tuners, pup selector) are a little on the cheap side.

To this point in my experience with them, I'd actually plop Xaviere right in the middle between SX and Agile.

I don't know about that but with a strat's flat neck angle I don't think it'd sound very good. OTOH it saves the effort of blocking the trem for those who like to do that :)

Yes, Jimi Hendrix and SRV will raise from the dead, tear the tailpice off and beat you senseless with it.

Nah, just kidding. A lot of blues players like stop tail bridges. The guitar usually stays in tune better and may also sound a bit fuller. Doing 2 string bends works a lot easier with this type of bridge. Plus it's also almost like having a Tele!

I own two Xaviere's--an XV-820 Tele copy and an XV-870 Strat-type. Both are well made, nicely finished, play well and sound very good--excellent values at under $200. The hardware quality is definitely a cut above most inexpensive guitars, and the GFS p'ups are quite good. I changed them in the Tele only because they were too twangy for my taste and I wanted a hotter pickup with a somewhat darker tone. Also installed compensated brass saddles, 'cuz I like 'em on Teles. The Strat copy I left dead stock. About the only complaint I have with either guitar is that the Tele copy has an ash body that is very heavy, though it adds brightness and resonance. But I almost always play seated, so it's not an issue for me. Might be for somebody who plays standing and is more slight of build, though. I'm sure the poplar body ones are much lighter

Man, that strat is nice. I have that Epi strat copy that I've been tinkering with, but it doesn't stay in tune well at all. I should probably work on fixing that up instead of buying a whole new guitar, heh.
