Some of you europeans must have head of Framus Guitars:

I never have before. They had a Jan Akkerman (from FOCUS) signature model in the 70's. I have never heard of Jan Akkermen before either.

Framus makes top class instruments and amps. Their Ruby Riot amp has got very good reviews in guitarmagazines here.

The very first guitar I bought was a Framus. I bought it brand new in '72 when I lived in Germany. I still have it and it still plays. :)

I also owned a Framus when I was in Germany, back in 1970. It was a 12 string accoustic that I got for a song. Very decent guitar.

Yes, the new ones are high quality instruments with a few design innovations of their own. I have no idea about the vintage ones, but you can find those on ebay.de for rather good prices and they are quite sought after by some; esp. their jazz boxes.

I have a Framus mandolin my Dad bought in Germany back in the 60's or 70's.
