To all you lefty's or folks who have taught one: a student at my school is interested in learning to play guitar. She is lefty but the family has a righty guitar; she asked me if she couldn't just try to learn to play righty - and I didn't know how to answer. I saw in a recent thread that some of you lefty's play one way and some another. What advice would you give me to give to this student? Thanks!

My lefty son is learning right-handed. Says he does all the work with the left hand anyway.

It makes it much easier to buy guitars.

As long as she doesn't mind learning to play righty, go ahead. Like Comm 64 said, it will make her like easier as she starts her collection.

FWIW: When I was a kid, my grandfather taught me how to play pool. I realized many years later, he taught me to play lefty. I am right handed.
