Level 42 has finally put out a new album after more than 10 years. With that kind of time between releases you'd expect 10 years worth of work? Not exactly. Nonetheless...

What you do get is a very good cohesive album with that classic Level 42 Brit Jazz/Funk sound. If you liked them before then you will really like this album. There are some great edgy funking hard driving tunes and a few of the lovey dovey sentimental ballads they are known for. The sound of the album is great. No shortage of good production here. Also, you still get tons of awesome bass playing. Mark King, the groups leader, is the bassist featured on the video clip that was posted on thefret about not having the little 'dots' in the Learn To Play Guitar book. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5OHPgne1S4

The band's website will let you preview all the songs from the album.

My recommendations are : "All Around, "Sleep Talking", and "Dive Into The Sun." What a smoker.

Can't say that I can count Level 42 as one of my favorites, although Mark King is an awsome bass player. My favorite English bands from that period are: Tears For Fears, the Cure, XTC, Squeeze and China Crisis.

XTC and Tears For Fears by all means...yes!

The last TFF album I got was "Everybody Loves A Happy Ending." What amazing songwriting and production. Very adventurous but still graspable. Beautiful sounding and catchy too. It's only one or two years old too.

I'm glad some of these bands from the past are still creating and releasing material. Much of it is way better than the standard drivel coming from the big label/pop factories.
