What effects are needed to get a "syrupy" Gilmour tone?

I have an American Strat (2008) and a Vox ad100vt. I can't get close to the tone I like and am hoping someone can help to point me in the right direction about what I can use to get more our of the Vox. I know the guitar is good and the amp has its issues.

If pedals won't help, will a small all tube (15W) do a better job in getting that thick, syrupy sound instead of the tinny, fuzzy noise I get from my rig? I also have a tube screamer but it doesn't help.

Most guys here are absolute purists and will probably disagree, but I really like a good compressor. It'll do wonders for your tone....and depending on how it's used it can be very very subtle.

I was able to get a very close to Gilmour tone by using 2 BYOC pedals (see signature below) with my new CV 50's Strat on the first day I bought it. I ran them into a cheap Peavey Vpryr modeling amp set to a clean channel Plexi (correction from "Deluxe Twin") amp model clean using some delay and a small amount of reverb. Got lucky, I guess!

Running the Rat clone into the tube screamer clone provides plenty of sustain and a warm over driven tone.
*I know this all sounds very unlikely, but once tweeked, the tone is damn-close.

He uses a Chandler Tube Driver. The driver with bias knob will cost around $400.00. He and I just purchased some from Butler.

Haha I'm glad you said "most". I'm about as impure as they come ;) That aside, I'm sure he used compressors, more than one actually.

Telewanger, thats an interesting looking pedal! I thought he was famous for using big muffs and Pete Cornish pedals, or was that just back in the day?
