Most people associate Jazz guitar with humbuckers. I get a very pleasing jazzy sound out of the single coils on my strat-like Godin SD.

Anyone know of good strat playing jazzers?
Jeff Beck pulls off some sweet jazzish tones from his strat, but I am looking for a bone-fide jazzman here.

I looked up some jazz chords, man those catz is craaaAAaaazy! They don't care which strings they aren't supposed to play. Play only the 5th, 3rd, n' 2nd?!?

Ummm, yeah sure!

That's in another town on another *PLANET* from cowboy chords. Rockers think they're tough by playing barre chords! Jeez!

I think Eric Johnson plays some Jazz, also its not that rockers can't play diffren't chords...they just don't know any other chords exept power chords :D.

Scott Henderson is a single coil dude I believe.

This summer I was at a gig listening to this awesome jazz guitar player without actually seeing him. When I talked to him on break I found out he was using a Strat with maple fretboard. He said that he just turned his tone on the guitar way down. I could have sworn he was using a jazz box guitar of some sort. He also had Lace sensors for pickups.

Just goes to show you...all it takes is creativity.

I think it is all about HOW they play those chords:) ....using the 1 and 5. Phew!

Yup. Scott Hendersson (Do check out Tribal Tech´s earlier releases!) makes some smooth tones with his single coils.

OK, I'll look into Scott Henderson.

I'm particularly interested in those that don't turn the tone waaaAaay down.

Jazz with a little sparkle n' chime!

I think youtube has quite a large amount of strat playing jazz musicians. Here's a video I found (not only is this guy using a strat, but in combination with an AC30, which I would have thought to be quite a trebly amp to use):

The first one has the classic sound.
That second one is a nice blues/jazz hybrid. Thanks!

You've convinced me I have to hear more of Scott Henderson. Thanks!

This isn't Jazz a la Strat--more like Jazzocaster--but this cat plays some great jazz on his telecaster:

Oh yes! Mike Stern is the house god here. His sound is almost to good to be true when he kicks in that DS-1 + chorus!
