It was interesting to see McCartney playing an Epiphone acoustic at last year's opening of Citi Field, the old Shea Stadium (NY Mets field) site where he had previously played some of the last notes to be sounded there along with Billy Joel, before they demolished Shea Stadium.

McCartney opened the new Citi Field with his band and played for three nights, two hours and fourty five minitues each show, 33 songs, now available on a two cd set with one dvd of the entire show, at Borders: Good Evening New Your City, historic Citi Field opening show.

It is also interesting to learn that when the Beatles, back in the old days, played at Shea Stadium; it was the first rock show to ever be staged at a huge sports field in America, maybe the world, and paved the way for the super shows that we are all familiar with.

So, in the Epiphone Gibson debate, I think it remains to be seen which brand name will prove to be more durable in the long run. Granted, McCartney's epiphone is probably a very special guitar, but maybe not that far off of the factory production model.

Gonna watch the DVD in a few minutes.

Mac also scored a '62 Casino at the same time as the '64 Texan...

...back then, Epiphones were made in the same Kalamazoo, MI plant as their sibling Gibsons, who'd acquired Epiphone a while before that and took them out of NYC. as a result, many Epis used leftover Gibson body parts and hardware.

Exactly. The Texan was a Gibson J45/50 (the only difference between the two was the finish) with an Epiphone headstock.

Si. ...the Casino and Gibson ES-330...which came first? The 330T & TD were born in '59 and hung around til around '72 while the Casino 'lived' from '61-'70 & came in a single pickup model as well as the 2. Holow bodies w/ P90's, not semi's with 'buckers like the 335 they resembled.

We watched part of the DVD of the entire show tonight. Energy packed first class production with a lot of money going into the light show and imaging. McCartney leading the band gracefully playing an assortments of guitars and piano. He really rips on the Gibson flamed top honeyburst or amberburst Les Paul that he plays on several heavier songs digging into some heavy rythym and hot lead lines.

The drummer is right on and the rest of the band is fabulous, delivering a very beatle type sound as well as a Wings sound, including contemporary McCartney songs. They play a variety of really nice guitars including Gibsons and have some impressive Vox and Mesa Boogie amps as well as other amps I couldn't identify, tweeds and big.

They flash back to the Beatles and it is not the same, but it brings back the memories really well and reaches into the Wings memories of Linda and Paul, with light show graphics including a lot of Linda McCartney's still photos, as well as still shots and video clips of the Beatles at Shea Stadium in the sixties as well as at other times. McCartney specifically remembers his wife, John and George and dedicates songs to them.

The show is like a Tribute to all of these things above, coming right from McCartney's heart in a really class act for 110 000 people.
