The Live at Massey Hall 1971 album is chock full of goodies, but to me the real gems are "See the Sky About to Rain" and "Don't Let It Bring You Down."

Truth be told, I was never really the biggest fan of the song "Ohio." I mean, I get its significance as a comment on a then-current event, but because that incident was so long before my ever hearing the song, it doesn't resonate as much with me so Neil's more generalized songs have always appealed a bit more to me. Still, I love Neil and this album gets a lot of play.

Incidentally, the footage is at least partially incorrectly labeled. The audio is from the Massey Hall show, however this show was not filmed and videos purporting to be from this show are actually of NY several days later in Connecticut (a show which was filmed for Dutch television) with Massey Hall audio dubbed over it.

40 Years ago today, I was a sophomore in college in Connecticut, with final exams looming and term papers due.

We were glued to TV Sets watching in shock, anger and fear, and if any of us were neutral or opposed to protesting the War before, we weren't anymore.

Resonate this:

The next day, maybe it was 2 days... hard to remember, really. The Guard marched in and drove into town in tanks. The Gas started, and kept us in our rooms.

Then they sent us home for the year.

And CSN&Y released this song.

Good post, Steve.
