View Full Version : Singers whose voices don't match their looks

Remember the first time you saw the face behind the voice and said, "no way!"?

Show us singers whose voice just doesn't fit their physical form...

A few obvious ones:

From Coheed and Cambria, Claudio Sanchez, who has such a soft, high voice that doesn't match his wolverine looks.

Aaron Neville with a voice like an angel... an angel that could kick yer arse!

I'll go with Rick Astley:

Rick has my vote too. His voice was accidentally swapped with Aaron Neville, I think...

K.D. Lang has one of the finest voices in entertainment today, but looks, well, not like you'd expect.

The voice sounds more like it came from someone looking like Amy Lee!

Wow. Amy Lee. Wow. Wow. Wow.

Yeah. Wow.

Hey.. I love kd lang as well, even though she looks like Brent Spiner's twin sister. :-)

My example is on all the Joe Bonamassa threads. Nerdy guy. Great singing voice. Killer guitar player. Just doesn't match his look sorry.

That's Roland Gift of Fine Young Cannibals fame. A lousy actor though! See Dance with a Stranger and particularly Sammy and Rosie Get Laid.

On second thoughts, don't :)

Angela Gossow. If you're expecting her to sound like the majority of female singers in metal, you're in for a surprise...

20 points to markb!

He also guest-starred in several episodes of Highlander: The Series, although, I don't think he and Roger Daltry ever ended up in the same episodes...

I didn't, but I used your image info to google for him. Looks like he's some dude from Britain's Got Talent? I hope he's not some uber-famous guy, otherwise I'll feel embarrassed.

Anyway, related to that, there's Susan Boyle:

Ah, Paul Potts! While he had some voice training before the audition, he was still purely an amateur. He's amazing, no matter what.
myuJUGKhLNs

As good as he is, he's still not quite Pavarotti.
Come to think of it, if no one knew anything about Pavarotti and you saw him in the store, you'd never imagine he had the voice of angels!
Compare with this...

Good call, Tibernius.

I'd probably have to go with Jim Gillette of Nitro. Back in the day he looked like this (he's the blonde guy):

http://hardrockhideout.files.wordpress.com/2008/06/nitroband.jpg

He sounded like this (yes, he actually hit all of those ridiculously high notes on his own):

These days, he looks like this (yes, this is the same guy):

You also might know him as Mr. Lita Ford.

Actually some of the most identifiable 70s/80s metal singers were shorter than average--some considerably so (all heights would fall under the category "reportedly"). Powerful voices in an itty-bitty package. FWIW, the average male in the United States is 5'10". I'm 5' 10 1/2", thanks.

Glenn Danzig (a very ripped 5'3")
Ronnie James Dio (5'4")
The Scorpions' Klaus Meine (5'4")
Iron Maiden's Bruce Dickinson (5'5")
Accept's Udo Dirkschneider (5'6")

Apparently everyone in AC/DC is a gnome too.

This doesn't surprise me at all. Loads of really great guitarists are very small people. It's weird for me to think that, because they have that larger-than-life thing going on when on stage, but in reality, I (6' 2 1/2", 220 lbs.) would probably dwarf many of those rock icons.

I hope that doesn't mean I'm at a disadvantage for guitar playing...

If it's any consolation, I notice the background in adult films as well.. LOL

Heheh, what a fun video! And those leads! :-) But those vox were nothing to write home about IMO, just basic falsetto work constantly backed by both harmonizer and a vocoder backing vocals. Most people can sing just as high I'd think.
