I have been developing a little GAS for a semi-hollowbody lately. I had an Epiphone Dot and thought it was OK, nothing exceptional. I've been checking out the new Hagstrom Vikings and think they look pretty cool for the money, almost exactly like an old Guild Starfire in shape and layout. Has anyone played one? Opinions?

Yup, I just ordered one. I think they are awesome. Good sound, easy to play, great looks, good price. What more can one ask?

SVL and Spudman are 2 members I know have Vikings.

I have a Swede as well. I really dig the Hags!

The Viking and Viking Deluxe have great finishes, but I'd be sure to look into the Viking Deluxe Tremar (http://www.hagstromguitars.com/Viking_Deluxe_Tremar.html) if you like Bigsby-ness.

My opinion has not changed since I wrote this. Robert is right about how easy it is to play. The neck and proprietary fretboard material, frets etc. just are very user friendly, and make bending, etc. really a breeze. I often work out lines on this guitar before feeling as comfortable with the same lines on my strat, partly due to scale length of course. But it is just easy to play, and has really nice sounds.

For me this guitar is an excellent value, and was a great choice as a second electric to go with my strat. There is a lot of info (as a lawyer, one of my primary jobs is to be a researcher), and links to most available reviews, some vids and soundclips and etc., in that review. Watch the GuitarWorld one. It is also linked on the Hagstrom site. My sound clips are what they are, and I hope they help. But I am looking forward to Robert putting some up. I can't wait to see him trump the guy in the Guitar World review and vid, and that guy is no slouch.

Spud also has a thread out there about his deluxe he has out there somewhere as well. .

Thanks very much for the info. I have searched Ebay and I see that Tim Mauery has the best deals. I'm going to investigate this guitar more.

If you don't need perfection then call him and ask if he has any blems that he'll part with. I saved around $400 that way.

Follow the links to the other threads in my review thread, as those linked threads have other vids and info that is helpful and gives a good idea about the sound of the guitar too. Tim seems a good guy, and SpudSteve and I had very good dealings with him.
