Rickenbacker guitars never played one but I have played a Ricky Bass and they where just OK to me nothing I would ever buy for myself.

Not that I am looking to get a Rickenbacker guitar now or have gas at all.
I just wonder what my fellow fret netters thought of their guitars.

They are beautiful and very well-made, but no better than anything else out there. I think the pickups are a bit thin-sounding. The 12s are wonderful, though, if the narrow neck (same as a six) doesn't present a problem. As always, YMMV.

Yes.
Ordered & got my 360-12BWB in 1982:

You learn to adapt to the slim 6-string neck, finding alternative ways to finger chords, staying up on your fingertips; the sound is worth it. Especially when you go this route:

Rick-O-Sound. Stereo. You route each pickup to its own amp or channel of a mixer. Each can use its own effect independent of the other. The little 5th knob is a blender.

Maxi: was the bass you tried wired Rick-O-Sound?

No, it was not just standard straight into my Peavey rig back in the day and recently into a very awesome SWR/Ampeg rig. It just did not have that low end boom or high end bite on plucked strings I like in short something was missing.

Compared to the Marcus MIller Jazz, Pedulla MVP, or my Ibanez SR500 it did surprise me Iby sounded better.

I like the sound of traditional Rics but never was able to familiarize myself with the necks. I do like the 650 series that they came out with in the '90's. I think they are gorgeous.

They were very reasonably priced too (~$700 brand new). They more than doubled their price in one whack a couple years ago. They had a hollow body version that they discontinued too. They go for a lot if you can find one.

Mine was sure worth it. It's a beater 620. Got it, w/ohsc, in a straight trade for an Epi Flying V w/ohsc. I'd paid $250 for the Flying V. So I got my Ric for $250.
