Played a benefit last night with my side band Cinnamon Hill. For a Waldorf preschool that's expanding to an elementary.

Scrunched into a small spot inside; where we might otherwise have played outside, there was a downpour as I was going to the club and that was the end of that plan.

Brought both mandos, as usual played the sunburst Fender with the Schmidt in reserve:

For guitars, I played the '52 Tele RI, with my Brownsville Choirboy in reserve:

Venue was here, we moved some tables and played right in front of the door just right of center in the pic:

Played 2 sets, a longer one before dinner and a short one after. As usual, I played mandolin for a batch of songs and then switched to guitar. I couldn't figure out why my overdrive sound was so loud compared to my clean sound, thought maybe it had something to do with the weird tone circuit on the '52. During the dinner break I discovered the culprit: I had left the amp Channel 2 set on high-gain Marshall from one song in church on Sunday. I almost always use the Vox channel.

:thwap

Had a nice dinner of some sort of chicken, black beans and rice, and Asian veggies with rooster sauce. Got one free inexpensive beer, bought a couple pints of Guinness (one for 1st set, 1 for 2nd) as well. Crowd was somewhat blase as they all knew each other and were busy yakking, but a couple people came up and said they liked us. As it seems like happens at every show, we got asked if we have a CD (we don't).

After dinner was a long break for an auction. Second set went somewhat better than first, since I'd sussed the amp sitch. Actually used the weird pseudo-bass setting on a couple songs, with overdrive. Good for soloing behind vocals without stepping on them.

Drove our drummer home after, was some sort of police dragnet (he lives a few blocks from the main city police station) with cops all over, including a flatfoot at the entrance to his street. He didn't stop us but looked us over real good. After dropping off my drummer, stopped at a light a few blocks away, and hear this person walking like Igor from a Frankenstien movie: clomp, drag, clomp, drag. I see this tall disheveled guy coming toward me sort of dragging one foot. I kept waiting for the light to change as he got closer and closer to the intersection, and finally decided a right turn might be in my best interest instead of waiting on the light to go straight through.

Got home around 11:30. Too amped up to go to sleep, so surfed awhile and was about to go to bed when our dang cop neighbor's car alarm went off for well over 10 minutes, waking up Mrs. K in the process. How does a person not hear a car alarm going off at 1 a.m. in their driveway 15 feet from the house?

Band practice tonight with a different side band, Pedagogy. That's my "church" side band that I play bass in (with the church drummer and praise band keyboardist singer). We have a show Thursday night. Also, will finally pick up a check for an amp I sold at consignment at a local music place. Yay.
