Carrying on from an original post by Duhvoodooman http://www.thefret.net/showthread.php?t=15214 as I thought it would be good to have in the Mods forum.

I got the switch and, after some help from DVM with some wiring issues, find that I really like the additional tone supplied by this mod and suggest it to you tele owners.

Regarding the wiring: you have to make sure that you make all the changes between the original wiring scheme and what is shown in the diagram - it's not JUST the switch and the separate ground for the neck pickup cover! I'll add below another very helpful version of the wiring diagram that DVM sent me:

I used a slightly different layout that puts the mixed positions in 2 and 3 as suggested by Rob di Stefano over at tdpri.com. Both work fine but can depend on your pickups. A very useful tele mod and saves hacking the guitar up to add a humbucker at the neck.

I assume then that position 4 is the neck pickup, then? Other than the obvious difference of putting the two dual pickup combinations next to each other on the switch, does this alternative have any other benefit?

BTW, you don't necessarily have to hack up a Tele to put a humbucker at the neck :D :

The only benefit is that you've got to feel the LOUD position into place and won't hit it by accident.

My tele is routed for HSS pickups just like a Nashville model even though it's supposed to have a "premium Ash body" with "'52 reissue" edge radius. Just another of those Fender factory weirdnesses. Apparently all 8502s are like this. The only problem with the humbucker rout is that it is just flat and has no deeper slots for the pickup legs as I found out when I tried to fit a mini-bucker at the neck.
