Stopped by a friend's house last night to shoot the feces. He's an accomplished player who likes to experiment, and is always playing "stump the neighbor" by picking out obscure tunes. He picked up his Strat and challenged me to identify what he was going to play. Well, I couldn't. Sure sounded familiar, part-solo, part-rhythm, no backing track, no effects. Mostly muted to varying degrees, finger-picked, very distinct notes. And long. And weirdly fun. Played it twice. Rang a lot of bells and I was sure I'd heard it before, but I just couldn't place it.

It was the drum solo from In-a-Gadda-da-vida, Strat-style. About the most entertaining thing I've heard come out of a guitar in a long time.

Anyone else ever heard something similar?
