here is a quick rundown on the gov't mule show in cocoa, fl on the indian river.

the weather was great....here is a pic karen took when we were about 5 minutes away from the venue....the upside to the rain is it brought the temp down from 98 degrees (115 heat index) to about 75 degrees!

the concert started about an hour late because of the weather (it rained/drizzled almost the entire time but the lightning early on is what postponed the show)....the crowd was decent (there were more by the time mule went on)....that's my friend karen in the bottom left of the pic with the stylish poncho (we could have sold a bunch of them if we would have thought ahead)! who took me to the concert for my birthday (she is just as big a music/blues fan as i am)....

opening act was a local band called the bone dogs....they sounded great and seemed to have a decent local following....

jackie greene came on next (he is opening a lot of mule shows on the summer tour)....never heard of him but the boy can play (he's wearing the hat).....really enjoyed their set....he played the les paul junior the entire time....

warren haynes came on at about 7:25pm and played until 10:15 with no break/intermission....i'll add the playlist to the bottom of this post....played new stuff from "by a thread" along with some grateful dead tunes (it was jerry garcia's birthday) and ended the show with "wish you were here" possibly a message to jerry....warren played the usual arsenal of gibson guitars with the soldano amp head and ceasar diaz cd-100 prototype amp head....

Cool, thanks for posting!

So he is still using Soldano... I thought he were using Marshall 1959 100 watt heads nowadays. Apparently not.

Sounds like you had a great, albeit wet, time! I'm still kicking myself for missing the opportunity to see the Mule and ABB a couple of years ago.

That looked like a really good time Warren. How many people showed up for the show? It didn't look very crowded.

Nice show to see on Jerry's Bday.

The setlist, particularly the second half of it, really makes me smile because I know Mr. Haynes did those songs justice.

Thanks for posting Warren. :thumbsup

Very cool, Warren! Thanks for the pix and blow by blow! :dude

Rather than start another Gov't Mule thread featuring their new (old) CD released today, "Mulennium", HERE is a Free listen for ONE WEEK starting today!

Just click on it here (not to hijack your thread, but sweeten it a little), go to:

http://www.spinner.com/new-releases#/11 <<<<<

10 track disc of live show from New Year's Eve '99 - '00. Quite a different set list from the gig you saw. Warren Haynes has BROAD musical tastes! The first seven tracks are Gov't Mule all the way, but the last three are COVERS of three of the best songs ever written:

"21st Century Schizoid Man" (from King Krimson's first, best, disc)

"We're Not Gonna Take It" (The Who, from Tommy. IMHO, one of the most powerful pieces of music ever written!)

"Dazed and Confused" (Led Zep I - the first Zep song I ever heard, on the day their first album was released. My friend TK and I were listening to an underground FM station in 1969. Up comes this first play from a new release (that day) from a new Brit band, and when we heard it, we were off to our local record store in TK's Volkswagen Beetle and each bought a copy that evening, and spent the rest of the evening in awe of this classic album!)

The Mule, on December 31, 1999, was The Mule - plus one hell of a cover band!

Again, I hope this isn't hijacking your thread, Warren. If so, my sincere apologies. I was gonna start a new thread re this new GM CD, but when I saw your thread, I thought it fit nicely...

I was gonna start a thread about the new album as well. RAWKS.
Great band, tight, great guitar, which we have come to expect, but, man the vocals. How many dudes can actually do justice to vintage Led Zep, and Haynes does an awesome job.

I think for me the highlight (ridiculous notion, but still) is "30 days in the hole".
Just a heavy, solid, spine bending sternum rattling JAM.

I think the mix on this disc is awesome. Guitar is right in your face, but you lose nothing of the vocal and bottom. Great live album.

To your thread Warren, very cool the way Haynes honors Jerry, what a solid set list of Dead tunes, and, like the new disc, I'm sure Mule put their own twist on them and took nothing away from the original.

I'd say that's one of the cool things about Haynes in general, seems in so much of his life he's covering other bands or playing in context where you instantly are thinking of OTHER giants, but somehow, it never seems like he's trying to be them, and you always respect HIS skill.

Love these guys. Thanks for sharing.

It's our favorite band and we were beyond honored!!

We play all over Florida depending on what's going on where. Did a festival last year in Rome, Ga and get down to the Keys sometimes.

Check out spacecoastlive.com or our myspace: myspace.com/bonedogsband (website under redesign) for our schedule. If you make a show come up and say hi!
