Tonight at a local family tav, a friend of mine's band put on an ambitious event. They performed live, from start to finish, Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon.
First, as a warm up set, almost each of the main anchor band members got up and performed solo, doing a cover or a song of their own. Putting themselves out there right away before doing DSOTM.

This is my friend Brian, who normally plays rhythm. He did a lot of the vocals tonight and some lead. Here he is performing Solitary Man I think.
Stage and gear shots. Some nice stuff.

Then, after a break, they got up and performed the album live. The anchor members of the band are the remains of a 90s prog oriented group out of LA (Stone Wheat). But that is only 3 or 4 guys at this point. To fill in the 9 positions needed, they got an extra keyboard guy who was quite good, and enlisted some local young talent. Particularly, two young girls, Stephanie, who played drums and anchored the whole thing for the whole album, and her friend Mia, who absolutely nailed the critical vocals with Stephanie and the guys backing her. Stephanie's older brother came out and performed the sax parts, and also just nailed it.
The vocal harmonies were amazing, shifting and blending extremely well. they only parts they used recording for were the special effects such as clocks, cash registers, etc, and some of the british speaking parts.
Another local musician said he came out because these guys were going to hang it all out there to do this thing. I agreed. This is a very emotional album IMHO, and they went for it, hung it out there, and therefore captured the feel and emotion of what to me is essentially a multi movement rock symphony.
Well Done!!!! Here are some pics. Sorry some are blurry.

Stephanie, Berklee School of Music Scholarship winner, holding it all together. She brought the intensity, you could see it in her eyes and hear it in her playing.

Us and Them
Anyway, pretty cool endeavor for a little mountain town, and a very good performance of what was a very important album for me.
