Mark Wein posted this on his forum, and I wanted to bring it over here too.

As many of you know, I really love the idea of mixing jazz solo lines (ala horns and sax), jazz chord voicings and blues. Robben Ford does a really nice job here. His historical perspective is also very cool. If you listen to what Robben is doing, you get where Mayer is getting a lot of his stuff too.

I hope you enjoy it. I did! :dance

Now I just need to learn how to construct those nice voicings on the fly, without having to think.

Robben Ford was one of the major influences in my playing today. I picked up his first instructional blues video, and his Red Hot Lines Book and Tape.
He was playing one of his signature Esprits. I can't use the Tape any more and I had the Red hot lines converrted to CD. He is a great blues guy, and has really turned the corner into a jazz fusion guy as well.
I have several of his blues CDs and I got a way from him when he went heavily into jazz.
One thing I remember is that is was hard to follow his finger techniques on the video. If you watch the third selection on blues rythm you will see what I mean.
Still an amazing player with a strange finger technique of sliding up and down the guitar.
Thanks for reminding me again.

I've liked Robben Ford's playing since my high school days when I heard him on a Yellow Jackets record. I still love his playing. He is one of those guys who I still strive to emulate.
