That's a cool story but has some niggling bits of misinformation in it.

The #5 photo describes the luthier as playing a homemade "electric guitar," but pictures him playing a mandolin. Guitars don't have 8 strings in 4 courses of two.

Also, Bo Diddley (who used to live near me, and in whose pick-up band I once had the good fortune to play a show), may have made one or two of his rectangular guitars, but most were made by Gretsch, or an independent luthier, not by Bo himself.

I saw that same story this morning. I think the moose-antler guitar is pretty sweet.

A musician near me, Jeff Conley, made some guitars out of small suitcases and other rigid bags. The story goes that his vintage stuff got stolen, and he had to improvise...

We spoke briefly at a local event in July. On one of the handmade guitars, he had to work on the assembly quite a bit to get intonation right. They look great!

Jeff Conley Band (.com) will play this Friday (or Saturday?) in Boston/Somerville, Johnny D's, for the locals!
