I finally got around to putting my modded overwound Alnico pickups in the Agile this weekend. I had some issues with my soldering iron, but after much swearing and cajoling, the pickups are in and working. Other than the different magnets, they're the same as the pickups I have for sale here (http://www.thefret.net/showthread.php?t=16838). Also, the details of the magnet swapping are here (http://www.thefret.net/showthread.php?t=16843).

I'm pretty surprised at how bright they are. I did swap the Orange Drop caps for some Russian PIO caps; .022 for the bridge, and .033 for the neck. I originally had them the opposite way, with the .022 in the neck, but it sounded too bright for a neck pickup. The pickups sound fantastic, and I'm tempted to just leave them in place and call it good. I would, but I still need to try out my GFS VEH pickups since I swapped the A5 magnets for A2 and A4 magnets. This is also the configuration used here, an A4 in the bridge, and an A2 in the neck pickup. They have that sweet tone that I associate with Alinico, but they also have more brightness and balls than a lot of other Alnico pickups I've heard. I wish I had some sound clips for you, but I still don't have a way to record.

This is the sort of sound that Guitar Fetish describes for their VEH pickups, but that I found a bit lacking in those. I suppose I also need to hear the pickups in stock form, with the A5 magnets. Maybe somebody will buy the pair I have for sale and post clips... :-)
