Well Tig's recent foray into Idol ownership rekindled my interest in owning a WI66, to compliment my very similar WI67. I've always wanted to compare the two guitars, now I can. Found this on craigslist 30 minutes from my house, gave them what they asked, and felt guilty doing it.

This is an '05 Korean built WI66ProQ

Mahogany body and neck
Rosewood Fretboard
MOP wing inlays and headstock inlays
VCC (voice contour control - rolls from humbucker to single coil, no tone knob)
3-way selector
Seymour Duncan '59 neck
Seymour Duncan Custom Custom bridge
tone pros style bridge

neck BEFORE cleaning. They never used it.

Still has the plastic on the cover. the heel on these is one of the best features. Awesome access

It's a veneer, not a cap like my WI67

and a shot of the fraternal twins

That's right, blame me! Hey, does that mean I get pick of the litter when it cross breeds with the WI67?

Very, very nice, Tio! I like it, but I could be a little biased. Quilted blue guitars have always created GAS for me.

Cool axe. Unrelated question: do you find those amp stands useful? I see people using them sometimes, but could never tell if they were a worthwhile investment. Just looking for some input on whether you like 'em or not...

I once had a blue guitar and I loved the look, but not the guitar.

Congrats TK! Do both Washies have the same Duncans in them? The Custom Custom is a ceramic mag pup, yes? I have a Custom 5 in the bridge of my LP, which I believe is the alnico 5 version of the Custom Custom.

Eric: fwiw, I have one of those little angle-up amp stands and wouldn't use my little SC XD without it. Really helps direct the sound up to your ears instead of into your calves.

Actually, this color wouldn't have been my first choice, but it's growing on me a bit. I'm in a Tobaccos Sunburst rut, so this is a good way to break that a bit.

Unrelated question: do you find those amp stands useful?

Definately! As you can see, this room has wall to wall carpeting, and having the amps on the floor causes me to lose alot of the brightness of the sound. You figure a 1x?? on the floor is sending 1/2 it's sound into the rug. A 4x?? is gonna have two other speakers elevated, so that would address that. But who's playing a 4x?? at home?? Correction....what considerate rational person is playing a 4x?? at home :spank Sorry, SVL!

Playing at low volumes with the amp directed that way results in hearing lots more definition in my sound.

Yes they're the same, 59/custom custom. It's what all the 66/67's come with stock, one of the reasons these are such an unreal value. according to the duncan site, the custom 5 is a slightly higher output '59, and they are both alnico V bar magnets. The custom custom is an alnico II bar.

here's the chart for reference. (http://www.seymourduncan.com/comparetones)

If i keep this guitar, the pups will change. No need in having two so close tonally. My thought is to put P90's in the 66 or different pups in the 67, I've always lusted after Lollar Imperials....we'll see. Plenty of time for that later.

Thanks for the compliments :dude

I take you're using the term "investment" loosely. These are what I use, they work great for small combos, collapse to nothing, and if they "walk" from a gig, at least I'm not out a chunk o' change. Something I grabbed at Ikea for all of $10.00 many many moons ago, and re-purposed as amp stands years later.

Ah, that's a good idea. I think the regular ones (i.e. the ones meant to serve as amp stands) are around $20. Not exactly a huge amount, but I figured why bother if they'll just add to the clutter. I've added them to my Christmas list. :)

Nice score on the Washburn. So now you have similar gits, with one solidbody and the other semi-hollowbody. Very cool.

Good idea on going to different pups too. That'll give you a "different" sound, more so that just the difference between solid and semi-hollow will.

well, it was a nice guitar while I got to enjoy it. I haven't been able to get too close lately.....somebody else in the house has been heeding the call.
