I've been playing guitar for about four years and I've recently come into some cash; after a lot of consideration I have decided to take up the Bass. My question to you is: Which one should I choose? I have a budget of around $260 american and I would prefer one that does not fall into the traditional "curvy bass" category, kind of like a B.C. rich, but without the huge price tag. Also, I am left handed, so if it was available in lefty that would help. Thank you!

Whoo hoo, another bottom-ender!

Unfortunately, after some searching, I'm at a loss in finding a pointy lefty for under that price. I guess searching local classifieds might turn something up.

I'm interested to hear what led you to the bass though?

A bass player and a lefty? Does that qualify you for disability? Only kidding, we welcome bass players here with open arms. Even lefties.

Does the bass you're looking for have to be a four-string, or are you open to 5/6/8 stringers as well?

5/6/8 stringers are fine. Hell, if you can find a 12 string, I'll play it.

This one (http://www.rondomusic.com/wob826tblleft.html) isn't very pointy, but it's still not your typical J or P bass...

Under $200 US, too.

Nothing special, just logic; You see, I've been playing guitar for a couple of years and there aren't really any guitars in my price range that aren't cheap little import guitars; so of course the logical decision was a cheap little import guitar with four strings ;)

I've found your bass:

http://bass-guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/ESP-LTD-AX54-Bass-Guitar?sku=516168#used

It's used, and if you can put up with a chip in the headstock, well within your range.

Or, how about this one:

Peavey David Ellefson (Megadeth) sig. Peavey is blowing these out because Ellefson went back to Jackson. Great deal on a killer bass.

Dean ML bass. Cool design!

If you're looking for decent sub-$300 guitars, try Rondo Music (http://www.rondomusic.com/). A bunch of us here have Agile, Douglas and SX guitars. Very good bang for the buck, and the Agiles are better quality than most of the imports in their price range. :thumbsup
