Picked this up via CL last week - it is definitely some type of Dinky because it's got the passive EMG-HZ pickups (well, I added a Seymour Duncan JB on the bridge :dude ) but the real sticking point for me is the headstock.

Every pic of a Dinky that I can find has the slant up or down headstock but this one is straight like a soloist...??

Any ideas?

All I can offer with 'somewhat certainty' it's made in Japan between 1998 and 2010, I'd guess it's rather newer than older. Possibly it's not the original neck/body combination.

Yea, I thought it had to be some kind of hybrid creation. Has the binding on the neck and headstock. Meh - no biggie.

Also one of the tuning keys is different, and on the body the knobs are 2 colors lol! It needs my caring attention!

It's legit. Apart from the knob and tuner, it's a Jackson DXMGT, like this one (http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Jackson-DXMGTBCS-Dinky-Electric-Guitar?sku=512248&CJAID=10381297&CJPID=1165983). I can't say with absolute authority, but I think they are made in Japan. Usually if you take the neck off there is a stamp on the butt end of the neck or the pocket that will indicate country of origin. It looks like its previous owner was a bit hard on it. The tuners (apart from the one) look just like the ones on my DK2M. People speak pretty highly of these guitars on the J/C forums, apart from the pickups.

I've have inexplicably heard of someone making Chinese knock-offs of these and selling them as Michael Jackson guitars. Google it if you are interested.

Dude EXCELLENT find! I could not find one with the straight headstock. Thanks!

Yea, I need to buy some new tuning keys (gotta be careful there, maybe schaller) and a set of new knobs. Going to put the SD Jazz in the neck next week, then it'll just need a new volume and tone pot. Already sounds great with the SD JB in the bridge. It's a decent metal machine for sure :)

For more information, you can search the Jackson/Charvel forum (http://www.jcfonline.com/forums/index.php). You'll get more stuff than you ever cared to know. I remembered seeing that headstock on certain models before. Some guys seemed to remember that that guitar started as a one-off special order for Guitar Center but then they made it a production guitar for a time. When you add the pup, take off the neck and post a shot of the pocket and the neck end. I'd be interested to see what you find. FWIW, my DK2M's looks like this:

The date stamp is VERY faint.
