Digitech X pedals

Spud suggested that I ask Robert about the Digitech X distortion pedal.

That brings up the entire digitech X line. Are they any good? If so which ones?

I've got the X Series Synth Wah and Tone Driver and think they are both great. So is the Monkey. It's just different (analog) and the others are digital but sound super.

Mike Stone from Queensryche has 2 X Series Digital Delays and a Synth Wah on his current stage pedalboard. Not much else either.

For more varied distortion they have a Distortion Factory pedal and the Hot Head which some guys on this forum have. Both seem to be pretty versatile.

IMO the Tonebone Classic or Hot British are great but possibly overkill.

I own a Distortion Factory 7, which i got from Digitech as a gift by visiting them on the Frankfurt Music Fair. It was for helping them in moderating their german support forum.

It is a very flexible pedal. You can use from 7 different classic overdrive and distortion sounds. Also it has a mixer out with speaker simulation or you can chosse between differnet stereo setup.

Is there any problem with a digital pedal in front of a modeling amp?

By the way the Tonelab has 10 pedal models built in:

Compressor, Acoustic Simulation, VOX Wah, Auto Wah, U-Vibe, Octave Divider, Treble Boost, Tube Overdrive, Fat Overdrive and Fuzz.

But I prefer the Bad Monkey over the three Overdrive pedals:

Treble Boost (based on AC30 Treble Boost)
Tube Overdrive (based on Tube Screamer)
Fat Overdrive (based on Rat)

The AD30VT has no pedal models.

I don't have a Digitech X pedal. I had a Hot Distortion but I donated it to one of my students (see I am a nice guy). I have gigged quite a few times with the Bad Mo' and the AD50VT on Tweed 4x10 setting - great results.

If you want a great distortion pedal that cleans up well but also delivers lotsa distortion, check out the Maxon SD9. It's my next distortion pedal (if I ever buy one).

I've got my Behringer overdrive in front of the Tweed and UK70s models with great results.

I own the Hot Rod Distortion and the Digiverb. They are solid as a rock and both offer a wide variety of sounds. I'm happy as a pig in poo with mine. :)
