This playing/tone style seems to me not to care what guitar or type of guitar is being used - it seems to sound the same no matter the guitar (hope that isn't heretical or insulting - not meant to be, just an observation). I would guess that it's more of an amp/effects-driven sound than a guitar-driven sound.

You can tell he's using single coils. It sounds thinner than you would expect. And noisy as all heck too. I'd prefer a good humbucker, but you can do a lot with a Tele.

tj, I think I agree with you though that an amph (and/or dirt pedals) influence the tone of metal to a larger degree than the guitar itself.

I really thought that sounded bad actually. Skilled playing, but that lead tone was weak-sauce. I mean if you want to go all metal on a Tele, you could do much worse than checking out John 5. Now with Rob Zombie and before that MM. He does use HB equipped Tele's of course though.
